Two who hit cyclist sought

Ventura police are asking for the public’s help to find two motorists they say intentionally hit a bicyclist Monday night.

The two men, who were in a red 1980s-model Toyota sport utility vehicle, spit repeatedly at a 26-year-old Ventura cyclist as he rode his bike on Main Street about 6:30 p.m., Ventura police said.

When the bicyclist began to follow the SUV, the driver slammed on the brakes near Oak Street and Santa Clara Avenue, causing the victim to hit the back of the vehicle and careen into the opposite lanes, police said. Then, while the victim was still on his bike, the driver accelerated across the street and hit him again, police said.

The victim was treated at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura for abrasions and cuts, then released.

Police have classified the attack as an assault with a deadly weapon. They have not identified the two men in the vehicle.

Witnesses should call Ventura detectives at 339-4394 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 385-TALK.
