So, does this mean Schleck wins?

Alberto has been suspended for a year.

Tour de France champion Alberto Contador has been suspended for one year because of his failed doping test during last year’s race, according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

. . . El Pais also reported that Contador will be stripped of his 2010 Tour de France title.

  1. But doesn’t his suspension end in mid August of this year?? So he misses the Giro and Tour, which I guess is his entire year. Should be a true 1 year, all of 2011, just my opinion.

  2. …we ain’t there yet ‘cuz it’s now all about the ‘appeals’ process…

…first, the spanish bitch can appeal the verdict with his federation, which handed it down, trying to get it lessened…that ain’t gonna happen ‘cuz they know he deserves 2 years but he’s still ‘their boy’, so it’s a one year slap on the wrist…yet his ‘time out’ has included training camps with the new team but he ain’t gonna be back quite in time for ‘vuelta’ on aug 20th ‘cuz the uci didn’t announce his positive until aug 24th, last season…small mercies…

…holy shit…“tainted meat” ???…ya, my ass…disingenuous excuse…china or mexico, there i can see it but not with this…he & his handlers didn’t expect a lab with the infinitely definitive capabilities of the german lab & on top of that there’s the meg-blast of plasticizers in his system, whether the testing is finalized or not…

…i’ve always said that contador protested so vehemently because he felt he had learned from the masters & thus honestly couldn’t believe that he got popped…

…so depending on how his initial appeals process works out, both the union cycliste internationale (uci) & world anti-doping agency (wada) can appeal to the court for arbitration in sport (cas) to increase the suspension to the usual 2 full years…

…considering that long delay before his positive was announced, i’m thinking patty mcquad & the uci didn’t believe he was gonna get popped either…

…anyway, i’m betting young mister schleck goes into the books as the 2010 tour winner & i’m (obviously) good with that…

…i’m also glad floyd’s not the only dude to get his title stripped, considering how many over the years prob’ly fit the bill…

  3. sucks for schleck that he didn’t get to stand on that podium, though, huh. sounds like a big fuckin’ waste of time.

  4. “Post-stage embrace on the Tourmalet was staged by Contador, says Leopard Trek rider”

…i said it all along because contador’s face had dropped it’s big smarmy smile before his body had turned even partially away…it was fake ‘cuz he knew he wasn’t as popular as schleck so he played him…

“It was Contador who put his arm on my shoulder,” Schleck told l’Equipe, “I didn’t do anything. It was his way of saying ’look, we’re friends’… but he knows what I think of him.”

  5. …interesting how different federations respond to the same basic problem…

…here are the danes – “Michael Rasmussen has made no secret of the fact that he wants to ride the Tour of Denmark (August 4-8), and it is equally clear that the Danish Cycling Union doesn’t want him there, or in the national team.

…”We do not believe in him. We do not trust Michael Rasmussen,” said DCU president Tom Lund to Ekstra Bladet. “I said that as early as 2009 and nothing has changed since then. He lied to the world on camera, and he broke the agreement he had with the Danish Cycling Union. Therefore we are not interested in co-operating with Michael Rasmussen.”

…here are the spanish – “Alberto has the time to think and to reflect; if it is confirmed that the sanction is established for a year, he must consider that he already has a few months of suspension behind him.”

…they knew they couldn’t let him skate or for sure wada & the uci would vociferously appeal to cas, so they’re hoping this 1 year suspension might do the trick…i hope not…

..from the same article…“The fact that Contador has been given one year, instead of the statutory two required for a first offense, could be an indication that the RFEC accepts the rider’s explanation that the tiny amount of the prohibited substance (50 picograms/millilitre) was due to a contaminated steak that he consumed on the Tour’s rest day.

…”50 picograms/millilitre is actually 40 times less than a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory is required to be able to detect. Had Contador’s samples been tested by most laboratories in the World the substance might well have gone undetected, but the laboratory in Cologne, Germany has newer and more precise testing equipment than many others. There is no legal threshold for clenbuterol however, which means that any detected amount is classed as a positive test”

…& then there are the plasticizers…

  6. I was making a joke, attempting to belittle Mr. Contador’s lame-ass excuse for getting popped for doping.

In reality, I share what seems to be the prevalent view around here, and virtually never drink spirits mixed with anything. (Sometimes I’ll spike my coffee, but we all know that doesn’t count as drinking.) Whiskey and tequila are favorites. As you were, gentlemen.
