Again I pushed back the lonely march through case law for a chance to get outside and, well, exercise a bit. All this desk work is fucking killing me. It is absolutely brutal.
Went with some Clif drink mix today over plain water. Seems I need calories. With this ass? Go figure. I thought I could sleep though winter will all the fat I’ve managed to store up. As an aside, I should float well come pool season.
Rode for two hours on the fixie. Good times. I needed that. In a big way. I hope to be able to continue down this path of physical activity and sunshine. We, of course, will see how it all pans out over the rest of the semester. If the last three semesters are any indication of what my uture holds, looking at these photographs will be the closest I come to riding a bicycle.
Nothing wrong with Phoenix in January. Nothing at all.
Nuttin’ wrong in PA, should be sub 20 in the am for our sunday whoreship service.
Get some!
rub it in jonny, rub it in.
i was psyched to see 30 and sun for tomorrow so we’re gonna have some fixed gear fever too.
How’s a brother reach that bottle so far away from the top tube?
Are the break levers the old school Dura-Ace ones similar to those Lance used to use on his hill climbing bikes in the TDF?
two brakes… wise choice for a fixie…
I thought that was pink lemonade.
That second pic is nice, just what I miss about AZ.
I froze my ass (toes, fingers, face etc.) off today. But it was generally ok. cheers!
Miller76,
Yes, those are old school Dura Ace brake levers. Good eye. Did you notice the wine corks for bar plugs? Simple, cheap (well, you already bought them) and they just plain work. Old school Dura Ace (177.5) cranks too. The parts are all over the place. But, nice enough. I’m not complaining. That is one fine ride.
My only suggestions (and I’ve made them already) to Surly would be the inclusion of a second set of water bottle bosses standard, some cable guides for the rear brake & a pump peg.
The water bottle I could do myself, but the other bits would require a torch and the requisite repainting of the frame. Farther than I’m willing to go at the present time.
I don’t mind the big clearance brake setup – fenders are nice. But, it is weird that you need a long-pull brakeset & there are no fender eyelets. It just feels like inconvenience rather than opportunity.
All that minor league griping aside; I bought this frame and I’d buy another in the future. Surly makes fine product.
i love a cork bar end plug. they do make it easier to get to your smokes on jiggly descents.
Ten degrees this morning. Gotta love that global warming. And there were a couple inches of fresh “undisputed science” on the ground. Winter riding gear-$600. Studded tires-$150. Riding all rear round, weather be damned-Priceless.
Dude, I had five years of part time study (nights, weekends, mornings, whatever) to get my law degree and commuted by bike. Try two Ortlieb rear panniers full of Hansard volumes, text books, notes, laptop, blah blah. Although having said that, the first ride post graduation without any of that s**t felt sweet. Stick with it, you are labouring the labours of the just, and think about taking the Surly post graduation out until the tyres go flat……And just think how much your kids’ll love you when you’re a fat-assed lawyer bringing home the biccies, or Playstation 10’s or whatever the heck it is rocks their boat….:-)
Kids don’t want Playstations and shit. Not for more than five minutes, anyway. Kids want home and Mom and Dad.
hopethishelps
another six inches of snow last night and two more feet due for the weekend..mannnn, do i miss phx in the winter.. thanks for the pix.. kinda made me homesick
