Taking it on into the weekend:

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestmailby feather

Being the dirty old skateboard and bike addict that I am, I tend to watch a lot of videos. Back in the day, it used to be dubbed copies of Curb Dogs and H-Street videos. But now its sitting in front of a computer at work watching the newest (and oldest) stuff online.

There are a few videos out there that inspire me in such a way that I can’t help but ride after watching them. I try not to watch those while I’m at work. It would be torture. I am never one to discriminate against any style of bike, so I will offer this little time wasting link dump as an example of what moves me.

Tops on this list for me at the moment would be this clip of Thomas Vanderham:

There is a quote in that clip that sticks in my head: “keep the mountain in mountain biking”  My buddy Steeley and I have adopted it and try to live it every time we ride.

These Four Friends seem to live up to this ideal and the guys in  Klunkerz invented this shit.

I tend to split my video time down the middle with “grown up bikes” and  BMX. No matter what you ride, you really can’t go wrong with the combination of Ozzy and Van Homan in Criminal Mischief. There is a set of trails here in AZ that humiliate me every time I get near them with a bicycle. But after watching this video I can’t help but go back. Again and again.

The boys from Ride The Spine make me want to check out from life and hit the road.

I even had a chat with Big Jonny about what would do it for him. He offered a few colorful examples but the one that stuck out was “anything Giro”. And when I think the Giro d’ Italia I instantly think Andy Hampsten on the Passo di Gavia

So what moves you guys? What makes you want to leave work early? Call in sick on a Monday, or go back to the house after the ride is done to grab lights and go ride some more? Throw some links in the comments, show me what you got.

Have a great weekend everybody! Keep it Dirty…

  2. I will be up and get the change dropped at 15 fast food drive thru lanes. Been at it for years. It is not the money, it’s the thrill of the find.

  3. I’ll watch those Seasons videos and be blown away as much as the next dude

    -but-

he sure ain’t “keeping the biking in mountain biking” by riding a pickup truck up the mountain

  4. …sorry, dirty biker…you don’t drive to the top of ‘repack’ because you can’t…

…you can drive 3 miles up bolinas road’s pavement to the parking lot but then it’s still a serious ass ride along the spine of the ridge to the top of repack & it involves a bitch of a climb that 90% of the folks walk the majority of…

…how do i know ???…there were times when i was the guy paid in buds to go up the hill & drive fred wolf’s old flatbed truck back down…

    …guaranteed…

  5. …oh…& once or twice a year, i’d ride UP repack just to remind myself what a dumb idea it was to ride up shit that gnarly…

…i’ll bet there are young guys around here who’ve never even tried…

  6. You got my # dirty!

“I love this shit!” -Kyle J.

    Keep it coming.

Next time you get back east we should do some drunk cycling.

    BK

  7. @BGW thats great info,Thanks! I was just going by what i see in that movie, a bunch of guys and girls unloading their bikes from a flat bed truck. Next time i’m out that way we should ride up and down that for sure.

  8. …dirty biker…that’s fred’s ol’ truck & half the time the brakes were ‘questionable’ & saying that i’m being polite…if you pumped them up before the curves (google map: fairfax…nothing but curves) you’d be okay but of course after smoking the big jay with the gang in the parking lot at the top of the hill, who remembers little detail shit like that…

…i swear i threw that thing into a four wheel drift coming down the very narrow mt vision road in point reyes one time to avoid becoming part of the scenery…

…anyway, senor dirty, if you’re actually headed out this way some time, get my e-mail address from gnomer & i’ll hook you up with the bomber boys who, depending on their time, will gladly take you out & thrash you…i mean, show you a thoroughly enjoyable ‘repack’ experience…

…i’m a cx bike kinda guy these days & that particular ride ain’t cx friendly, up or down…i’m not slow on the dirt but i just like the control & focus i need with those skinny tires & no suspension…kinda sad but my 20 year old ti fisher prometheus literally hasn’t had dirt pass under it’s wheels in over 8 years…

    …buenos diaz…

  9. When you’re blasting 40+ foot gaps it’s probably in your best interest to conserve your energy. Some ride up, some ride down, who cares? Vanderham has some of the best style on a mtb right now.
