W – the fucking movie?

I can’t say I’ll rush right out and see this one. But, then again, I’m not all that sure I won’t see it either.

George W. Bush, by Oliver Stone
Well, looky here, someone went and “leaked” the trailer for “W.“, Oliver Stone’s upcoming film about our commander in chief, onto YouTube. The cast is choice: Josh Brolin as Dubya, James Cromwell as Poppy Bush, Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush, Thandie Newton as Condi Rice, Scott Glenn as Rummy, Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell, Toby Jones (the other Capote) as Karl Rove, and — the piece de resistance — Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Cheney. Interestingly, it appears to be a comedy, one about how a privileged but fairly useless family black sheep might find gainful employment in the Oval Office. “W.” comes out October 17, a few weeks before the election.

Sounds, and looks, depressing. Sorta like the last eight years.

The man, the legend. The guy who started it all back in the Year of Our Lord Beer, 2000, with a couple of pages worth of idiotic ranting hardcoded on some random porn site that would host anything you uploaded, a book called HTML for Dummies (which was completely appropriate), a bad attitude (which hasn’t much changed), and a Dell desktop running Win95 with 64 mgs of ram and a six gig hard drive. Those were the days. Then he went to law school. Go figure. Flagstaff, Arizona, USA

  1. Got to be a first. A movie about a president while a president is in office. Can’t be that intriguing, or somehow it would have been controlled like the rest of the stuff around here.

  2. Sorry, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Like Dave Z in the Olympic tt, but without, you know a positive reason like being in the Olympic tt.

  3. not sure how “leaked” it is when you can watch it on the apple site but.. this could be a good flick. mr. stone doesn’t get enough credit for painting in shades of grey. i look forward to it.

bush is still a cunt though.

  4. Funny, I was just wondering to myself what good W has done. We all know about what he’s fucked up and all, we just never hear if he’s done anything that’s worth a shit.

  5. Ditto for a certain Mr. Obama…what has he done? Not defending W, just sayin….

  6. …think i’ll wait for the dvd…i’m already convinced…

…& sommerfliesby…obama at least has the potential to learn & create something worthwhile…any action mccain takes until the day he croaks is already premeditated (pre-medicated ???)…

  7. I honestly thought that this “W” trailer was some kind of parody or spoof (not unlike the REAL George W. Bush Administration). I guess the joke’s on me (and everybody else).

  8. el serracho- I agree. Stone is an underrated artist with a true gift for observing the fucked up complexities of American culture (Natural Born Killers).
I also agree that a Bush is a cunt.

I won’t be attending though. 8 years of air-time, good or bad, is enough. Just being alive at the same time as the generation that elected the fucker.. twice!! is all I can take.

  9. The feel good comedy of the year!
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll kiss billions goodbye!

  10. Thandie Newton’s worth a rattle though………wonder if she gets her norks out ? Might be worth a look then…….at least with the benefit of rewind/fast forward buttons……the rest of it looks like utter pants. So it’s true to life then…..

  11. Geezuz man….”norks” just made me spit out my Fruity Pebbles…hahaahaha!

BGW…just wondering…aren’t you a bit concerned electing someone who requires “on-the-job training?” This ain’t Burger King, baby. And, unfortunately, it’s not the time for a pacifist idealogue to be sitting in that chair. I fear for the weakness of my country. A lot of this fear has been cultivated over the last 8 years…Bush’s military policies have stretched America’s forces waaaaay too thin…and eliminated much of their effectiveness, both physically and psychologically. My opinion is that we should pull it all back in, and rather than blanketing the world with our pistol-packin’ ideals on freedom, just make our power and prescense known with short and sweet action…perhaps it would restore some respect for this country throughout the world? I know it would help in the countries we have “occupied” of late (all we’ve been doing in creating an entire culture of America-haters). I truely believe that would NEVER happen in an Obama presidency…he has already professed his positions regarding “talking” with Achmedinejad and Chavez…you think those people are gonna listen to US????? It’s like setting us up to negotiate from a position of weakness. Watching the Olympics SHOULD be a wakeup call to those who perceive China as a passive giant, and our “friend.” Can you say NATIONALISM?! Almost Nazi-like, state-sponsored NATIONALISM. They are out to prove they are the greatest country in the world, and now they have the manpower and resources to do just that, humanitarianism be damned(I think they missed that class at the National University). I don’t agree wholeheartedly with McCain, either, but at least he has both governmental and military experience (like more years of it than Obama has been ALIVE). Whew, sorry to ramble gents…I’ve got to get to work!

  12. “…just make our power and prescense known with short and sweet action.”

I heard a senile old man say the something very similar about the coming future. He followed that up with “it’ll only take a few big bombs to solve all of our problems.”

As long as Obama hires some semi-experienced cabinet members, he’ll do just fine. No man is an island and I’d argue that “no president decides anything without consulting the people he hired.”

I’d also like remind everyone what the Bush family’s “experience” has brought to the country…

Bush has already reduced us to a quivering mass of land incapable of defending itself because its troops are spread too thin. Should we McContinue in the same fasion?

  13. …sommerfliesby…

    …in a word, ‘nope’

…refer to the last eight years, if ya need more…

  14. I wonder how many chinese bikes sommerfliesby has in the garage?
Fuck, elect me, I can push a goddamn button. W did and the new kid can too.
