Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to present to you, Arizona's
finest mountain bike race promoter, Mr. Todd Sadow.
He is the man behind Epic
Rides. His races are among the best you will ever participate in.
I'm serious. Come on out to Arizona and try one if you haven't already.
That's him punching me at the 2003 Squealer. Yes, it
hurt.
What is your name?
Todd Sadow
What do you like to be called?
"Todd" or "Sadow" (pronounced Say-dow)
How were you introduced to cycling?
Started riding a bmx bike and then never stopped from there.
Wanted a new bmx bike but parents forced me into a touring Fuji 12 speed…coincided
with LeMond winning the tour…started racing the road bike at about 11
yrs old (with zero success) hooked from there on out.
I often wonder where I'd be now if I didn't get the Fuji.
How did you first hear about drunkcyclist.com?
Saw your crew at an MBAA event. You had me at "hello"
Do you read drunkcyclist.com?
Indeed
How does it feel to be interviewed on drunkcyclist.com?
Like a Rock Star!
Where do you work and for whom?
Work for Epic Rides, Inc; Office within the PBAA offices (El
Tour de Tucson).
Not sure that cycling would be what it is in AZ without the El Tour
offices. They do more than people realize.
How did you get involved in race promotion?
Long story, but, to keep it short, wanted into the bike industry.
Thought it would be a foot in the door. Never looked back once the wheels
got up to speed.
Do you enjoy race promotion? I mean, all the time? It must
have its ups and downs. Weather, permitting issues, participants getting
injured.
Not all the time but at least enough of the time that the end
result is justified. The last two years were the hardest hands down.
Everything that could go wrong did (Murphy's Law). It really made me
want to run back to the safe-haven of corporate America.
A switch flipped last July ('06) for Epic Rides. Things seem to be
back on the right track. Why? I have no idea; some things are better
left unquestioned.
No less, some days it's "like any other job", other days
it's the dream job I was aiming for.
Do you like watching porn?
Are there trees in the forest?
Who is your favorite porn star?
I'm not picky

Are you Conservative or Liberal?
I walk the line.
Mother fuck George Bush, or thank god he's our President?
I only like one bush, it isn't Georgy.
Iraq War: Good idea or fucking huge mistake?
Good idea poor execution. ~ I'm not saying we should or should
not have invaded Iraq; I'm saying we needed a positive relationship
with Iraq on some level. Read: Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
Coffee or tea?
On a date…Tea. The morning after…Coffee. Dig'n on caffeine
for the first time in life.
Do you drink alcohol? What's your poison?
Yes. Gin and Tonic for the first round…straight and on the
rocks with a few limes thereafter -OR- beer is always good
Do drugs?
Used to.
Ever had a problem with either?
No chance. Got to be in control. Know why you're doin what
you're doin.
Atheist or true believer?
I've got some questions but I'm a believer no less…
What religion were you raised?

We're tight (and I've got a stellar sister-in-law).
Do you get along with your parents?
My parents are ridiculously cool, extraordinarily understanding…and
very VERY supportive. Whole family is like 4, now 5, peas in a pod.
Ummm…yeah, we get along.
What was your childhood like?
No complaints. Lots of wakeboarding, road riding, jet skiing,
pole vaulting, drinking in cow fields, tripping daisy's and golf (lots
and lots of golf).
Did you fucking hate high school?
No way. Wouldn't trade if for the world. We had a rodeo team
and football at my high school…what else do you need in the middle of
nowhere Texas?
Did you go to your high school reunion?
Indeed. e95!
Who pisses you off, and why?
People who lack tact, otherwise, I try to keep it pretty chill.

Less lately.
What shows do you like?
Boston Legal.
Do you watch sports?
Golf.
Which teams?
The blue one.
Do you drive much?
More than I like but I make a point of it to commute by bike
when I can.
What do you drive and why?
VW Touareg. Functional for job and a great car. Handles like
a sports car but gets me on course when I need to be out there. Plus
provides some space for event eq. etc
Where do you want to be in five years?
I'd rather not air it out but trust me, the bike community
wants me to be where I want to be. I've got some pretty big ideas knocking
around in my brain. Come with me on this…
How 'bout in ten years?
Way to far out to tell. I'll be glad to have health and happiness
where ever I am at that point (plus whatever progress I've made on #41).
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it
be?
Not a thing.
And why?
You gotta be good with who you are otherwise what do you have?
Any final thoughts or words?
Yeah, never settle for anything less than what you want… and
… Validation can be a tough pill to swallow.
Thanks for the opportunity!
