Sunday is a fun day

I did a little of this to start the day off proper:

I caught the last 40k (the part that really matters) of LBL on streaming video as the kids got silly on candy. Baller. Motivated for sure. Couldn’t get a ride in yesterday as life just didn’t allow it.

Today was different. I got out on the bike and looked at some of these:

I rode a whole lot of roads that look like this:

I straight rocked it, son.

Life is good.

I wonder what Gnome’s doing right now?

About big jonny

The man, the legend. The guy who started it all back in the Year of Our Lord Beer, 2000, with a couple of pages worth of idiotic ranting hardcoded on some random porn site that would host anything you uploaded, a book called HTML for Dummies (which was completely appropriate), a bad attitude (which hasn’t much changed), and a Dell desktop running Win95 with 64 mgs of ram and a six gig hard drive. Those were the days. Then he went to law school. Go figure. Flagstaff, Arizona, USA

  1. I’m living the dream for six more hours. great weekend what with winning the Squealer. it’s like cloud nine or something, but even better. caint believe I pulled that shit off.

glad to read you got out Cabbage. it wouldn’t be right otherwise you god damned drunk cyclist.

  2. Nothing like Sunday streets. Pavement so beautiful when de-populated of cars. If every day could be like Sunday….

  3. No Easter egg hunt. Kid will be 21 in May. Still gets an Easter basket, but I reckon someone needs to keep some chocolate around for Dad to snitch.

No ride, but wrenched on the old Raleigh between Easter dinner preparations. Houseful of family, more fantastic food than you can shake a stick at, several Yuenglings, TWO naps-epic.

  4. jonny, I looked for you, didn’t see you. I was looking for a guy with his glasses inside his straps. That’s why I missed you.

We were the old folks on the Red De Rosa’s.

It was a glorious day in PHX, in spite of the wind, and I even conned the missus to ride 30 miles (sorry dear, I should have turned right at Albuquerque). Not sucky at all.

The rest of the week holds great promise, and F the Schleck’s.

  5. Gnome you won the Squealer? Holy shit. That is like dream within a dream within a dream or something like that. What bike where you riding?

    Props and cheers!

    Nice kit Big Jonny

  6. beach cruiser ride with the wife….first sunny day home in maryland in like 3 weeks..

  7. Colin, indeed, I won that shit. After a decade+ of missing it and hoping for it, I thought I’d never get it. This year I came in with no expectations. I toed up and just gave it my best. I was flogging through the climb to Buena Vista, and I was flogging it on the climb up to the top of the west-end ridge right after telegraph pass. I had no power on the hills. But I made everything back on the tech. I fucking lit up a line on National like I’ve never seen before. Like there were no consequences. I’m still reeling about it. Just an a-game day.

And I won it on the 1999 Titus FCR that Groves built for me back in the day. Of everything I have in the quiver, it’s still the best bike I’ve got. Better than the 29er. Better than the full 120mm squish bike.

A dream within a dream within a dream. Fuck yes.
