Filippo Pozzato succeeded Saturday in Harelbeke, Belgium. The Italian of Team Katusha pulled off a strong sprint win over the race’s number one favourite after 208 kilometres of racing in the E3 Prijs. It was his first win in over a year and a sign of good things to come for next weekend’s Ronde van Vlaanderen.
The rider from Sandrigo, Italy, went into action at kilometre 25 on the Knokteberg climb. He followed the attack of ex-teammate Tom Boonen. They formed a trio with Maxim Iglinsky (Astana) that made it all the way to the finish line.
Pozzato maneuvered Boonen to the front in the final 500 metres to position for the sprint….
