Senator (Obama) kills Africans. News at 11.

From BBC News :

Kenya, where Senator Obama’s father came from, is not immune from this either, but here, another Obama is riding on the crest of a wave.

This one, though, comes in the form of a brown bottle and is called Senator beer.

In many slums and low income areas, people who find beer too expensive often resort to cheap home brews.

But these potent drinks which include traditional spirits known as chang’aa have on a several occasions proved lethal.

Some consumers have died and others have been blinded. It’s believed brewers spike the beer with deadly additives.

At least I got you to read my post.

In other news Germans are just as corrupt as everyone else, especially when they’re loaded. Maybe more so.

Germany has begun an investigation into tax evasion using information from an anonymous informant, who was reportedly paid 5m euros(£3.75m; $7.3m).

Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein, the country’s leader, said Germany had broken the law by buying the data.

Liechtenstein considers the informant a criminal and is conducting its own investigation into the affair.

Well, Im sure the millions that are owed in back taxes… no, wait… BILLIONS will go to something worthwhile. In other tax-related news let me throw this out there; While Europeans are taxed at much higher rates (as high as 50% in France) think of it in this frame. They all have health insurance. They all can go to college (if they choose). They all have the equivalent of Social Security for when they retire and are old and dying. Not some 401K gamble that can disappear in the blink of an Enron.

Looking at it in that frame, how much of your check goes to Soc. Sec? Then how much do you pay for insurance? How much do you set aside for your retirement? If you do the math and it gets to something akin to 50% of your paycheck, then you’ll see that its NOT that expensive nor it is prohibitive. It’s pain, to be sure, but changing for the better is in many ways.

Another &300 check Mr. Bu$h? No thanks. Even though I could use a Brooks saddle for each of my bikes.

I’m bored and a bit sick, hence the not-quite-coherent rant-post. Deal.

  1. No thanks.

I can draw on my 401k as I please, put in whatever amount I like, earn >18% y/y, and not have to wait until I’m fucking 67 years old to get the money I already made.

401k is only a gamble for people who are too lazy to learn how to invest.

Since I just did my taxes, I quickly added everything up including insurance and retirement plans. I stand just above 22%. So in the grand scheme of things, why would I pay more for poorer quality (less return on investment, guaranteed shittier health care, etc)?

  2. MX,

The future fuck factor is the cost of a college degree (Its the credentials that become the ticket) for for my children.

    I guess we’ll move to France ;)

The ticket to earn a living, while allowing the leisure to give life meaning.

From the mouth of an existentialist.

  3. patrick,
Your ticket has resulted in McMansions, 60″ plasma screen TVs, and 28 month car leases. If someone chooses to blow their money on luxuries they don’t need, instead of saving it for their children’s college education, that’s their problem, not mine.

The solution isn’t higher taxes & cradle to grave socialism, it’s personal responsibility. Well, OK the bottom 20% should be assisted, but fuck everyone else.

  4. I know I didn’t present my point as articulately as I could or should have, but I do know that for the majority of my adult life I was working shitty jobs and had either no insurance (It was too much out of my paycheck from working at a shitty retail job) or the co-payment ended up being prohibitive to even go in for a checkup or ailment. Forget about emergency room visits. That comes directly out of your pocket.

Personal responsibility is all fine and good, but you better be sure the guys you elect to lead and spend OUR taxes are as responsible as you are. Otherwise it’s all a big fucking joke. that goes for anyone regardless of the little letter after their name.

  5. bikepunk,
I can’t elect responsible leaders, simply because stupid people are allowed to vote.

Don’t you think it’s just a little bit fucked up that one needs more qualifications to teach kindergarten than to be president?

Or how about this, give them less and less tax money so they have less they can fuck up.

I’m under the philosophy that governments fuck up more than they do good. My solution isn’t to give them more money, but less.

I guess you’re one of the people that that trust governments…. I don’t.

  7. Governments may not be great, but show me a large society without a governing body that can function.

I don’t think a lot of us would do well in a strongest/smartest/luckiest survive environment. Or at least not real comfortably.

Ideally, maybe teachers should be the most qualified, since they are the ones that can have a major impact on everyone. Then maybe we wouldn’t have stupid people? Or at least as many. And then there would be less stupid people to elect stupid leaders, right?

  8. If Obama rolled up with a 40OZ….I don’t know,, that would just fucking rule

I hope he does those colt 45 adds like Billy D Williams used to
