Martial Law couldn’t happen here, could it…?

from Blacklisted News :

The United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) has just announced plans for an anti-terrorism exercise called Vigilant Shield 08. The exercise which is slated to run from October 15th to October 20th is described as a way to prepare, prevent and respond to any number of national crises. The exercise is simply a test case scenario for the implementation of martial law. Although the description of the exercise is disturbing, USNORTHCOM also announced that they are more prepared for a natural disaster and a terrorist attack after they used their response to Hurricane Katrina as a test laboratory. During Hurricane Katrina, authorities violated the constitutional rights of citizens by stealing people’s firearms and even relocating people against their will. These announcements are incredibly disturbing on a number of levels as the nature of Vigilant Shield 08 and the admission that Hurricane Katrina was used as a test laboratory shows that the government is actively preparing the military and government institutions for martial law.

Call me paranoid. I’m expecting it. The idea just makes me a bit too twitchy.

  1. …”after they used their response to hurricane katrina as a test laboratory”…

…oh, i musta missed their response thingy…exactly when was that ??…seems like some people are still waiting…

…paranoid ? yer just realistic, bikepunk, who knows what else they talk about behind closed doors…

  2. Response in terms of implementing Martial Law, sure. response in terms of helping actual citizens? No way in hell.

Other than the rich white folks, that is…

  3. I think ‘ol Webster my man says something like:
    Fascism =
“…a system of government characterized by rigid one party dictatorship, forcible suppression of opposition, private economic enterprise under centralized governmental control, belligerent nationalism, racism, militarism, etc…”
“…a political system based on such policies..”
    “..See also NAZI..”

I just find this all very interesting.

  4. I’ve thought for a long time now that if I ever felt the need to own guns it would be out of fear of my government rather than fear of my fellow citizens.

  5. What do you guys expect? Two wings(parties) on the same bird! There is one party in this country the money party. . .

  6. My official conspiracy friend, Russell, mentioned a few months ago something along these lines: that he thought W would declare marshall law to cancel the 2008 election and remain President for G*D knows how long. Holy shit!, its coming to life…

  7. The US Constitution is a significant about how to LIMIT the power of government

The Founding Fathers experience and thought was how government can over reach and deny man his civil liberties. They were intensely aware that their own government would likely be the leading threat. The Declaration of Independence is really a document that describes the specifics of governmental (King) over reaching.

Bush is far more interested in security than freedom. This is a completely unAmerican behavior.

  8. If the W. were boss for life?
I think we (the smart ones) would be reduced, truly, to one of two options:
    -Leave
    -Revolution

If the “R” word doesn’t put you on Homeland Securities watch list, nothing will eh?

Our Founding Fathers are spinning like fucking tops in their graves!

  9. gotta have a plan in place for when all the low hanging fruit runs out… peak oil doesn’t mean the end of oil; just the end of easily extracted oil.

  10. Apparently someone has been reading the blogs, because there is absolutley no mention of Katrina or Rita anywhere in the release I read (and did a word search on). Regarding the Martial law takeover of the government conspiracy theory, you have to remember that 99+% of the armed forces of this country take their oaths to defend the constitution very seriously, so “El Presidente for Life” would quickly be facing a firing squad.

    Opus

  11. Actually, ‘Peak Oil’ refers to the point where easily extracted oil is at an end, yes, but then the COSTS of extracting the rest increases to the point where you are spending as musch to get out as you get, then it becomes MORE expensive. So you’re right, and yet short-sighted.

And, I doubt the armed forces would readily not follow orders from the Chimp-in-Charge. there would be some, but looking back at the National Guard fiasco at Kent State, and the militarization of local PD’s it is not hard to see that even local police would be inclined to throw in a heavy hand.

Most Bush backers are gun-toting rednecks who would PREFER a Repug Gov’t over anything remotely democratic.
