Fire on Elden

File this under “oh shitty”. Gnome told me he saw a plane dropping shit a few hours ago. I walked outside and, of course, saw nothing.

It’s fire season, folks.

Coconino National Forest fire fighting crews are responding to a several-acre blaze on Little Elden Mountain.

Two Forest Service hot shot crews and two engines from Summit Fire Department are fighting the fire. Air support was called in, and a water pumpkin was being set up at the Flagstaff hot shot headquarters.

The fire, which was called in late this morning, is on the back side of the mountain.

Check azdailysun.com for more details about the fire as they become available.

I imagine you’ll also be able to find updates at the Coconino National Forest website at some time in the near future.

About big jonny

The man, the legend. The guy who started it all back in the Year of Our Lord Beer, 2000, with a couple of pages worth of idiotic ranting hardcoded on some random porn site that would host anything you uploaded, a book called HTML for Dummies (which was completely appropriate), a bad attitude (which hasn’t much changed), and a Dell desktop running Win95 with 64 mgs of ram and a six gig hard drive. Those were the days. Then he went to law school. Go figure. Flagstaff, Arizona, USA

  1. yeah, i heard about some fires in Flagstaff on NPR today. It’s really not a question of “if” but “when” for pretty much all National Forests. They’ve all been mismanaged for the last 100 years or so. The word “tinderbox” comes to mind. but hey, it will all grow back again just in time to burn again in the future. it’s really the way the whole thing works. let’s just make sure not to leave a whole bunch of fuel standing around to encourage it. set a buncha little fires to avoid one big’un. wordup.
