Boone Pickens exists to make Ross Perot look good in the range of Texas Zillionaire nut cases.
But pretty often he’s a bright guy, people pay attention.

I saw a documentary/ news report here where a solar energy ‘expert’ (Im not sure if he was a designer or engineer or what…) was saying that if you had (a specific sort) or solar panel farm that was the size of Austria, you cold power the entire planet.
His idea was to build HUGE ’solar farms’ on desert regions across the sahara, north africa, Mexico and the American southwest, being perfect examples. There is so much wasted space as well as non-used space… hell… Carter was telling us this 30 years ago, and now after being awarded the nobel peace prize (for an altogether different reason) the conservatives are STILL calling him names and completely disregarding him and his advice.
Its going to take a HUGE problem (like $12 a gallon gas and the assorted problems it brings… higher food prices, lack of long-distance delivery, etc…) to make the US REALLY get serious about this. It won’t happen before that.
If we can make and iPod the size of a postage stamp that hols however many HOURS of music, we should have had this problem solved a LONG time ago. The problem is the sun goes away every night and it doesn’t tell us where it’s going. (Thank you Lewis Black. )

…& everybody is too fucking “busy” listening to those i-pods & cell phones to pay attention to real problems & what might be simple solutions if they are addressed in time…

Regarding the FEMA trailer debacle, I have one question:
Why do republicans always rush to the defense of corrupt businessmen who have no regard for the publics health or safety?
Is it admiration?

The problem with the way people are going to start with all the windfarm and solarfarm operations is to suggest putting them in undeveloped areas, like deserts. I saw a plan for a windfarm near the flinthills in kansas. it looked just like an oil rig installation with miles of new roads carving up habitat. deserts and other open spaces would be the most horrible and stupid place to put such things. it’s a good idea, if you wanted to completely defeat the purpose. these things should top buildings and be part of the restoration and reclamation of urban areas. It just follows that the same idiots running industries such as the oil, automotive, and airline industries in america are going to be the head honchos of these projects. and that paints a grim future. who are these guys anyways? and how did they get their jobs?
