Let the good times roll.

Subject: Reason to own a .40 cal.it’s shit like this that makes me want to tote my .40cal with me on road rides. Too bad the damn thing weighs too much. Gotta find a lighter handgun to compliment all the carbon.

I summize that soon we will be reading about cyclists taking their own vigilante justice. The cops are either too busy, too stupid, or just don’t give a rat’s ass to press charges anymore as us riders are dropping like flies. Now, if the shoe were on the other foot and cyclists were pulling motorists out of their vehicles and kicking the shit out of them right and left, do you think the cops and County Prosecuters/Attorneys would do something? Fuckin’ A they would!

Cops seem to be handling this one properly–as a felony assault. Otherwise, I’d agree with Gnome that we have the right to defend ourselves. A car is a potentially deadly weapon, too.

At least the prosecutor sees it as a felony assault. Maybe the good Dr. will lose his license to practice if convicted.

in effort to uphold the Cynergy and Laist wishes that no vigilante justice be enacted, I’ll refrain from posting this fuckstick’s name and info, but suffice to say - he’s a doctor who practices Psychiatry for children and teens. Just to add another twist to the tale. Maybe he aught to self medicate a little better, and maybe some time in the slam will give him that opportunity. Cops, amazingly, are so far pursuing this case to the fullest extent of the law - he’s been arrested and the cops are handling the matter as a felony criminal assault. We’ll see where this goes.

God damn. I hope this isn’t the same Ron Peterson I used to ride with back in the day. He relocated to SoCal and was doing some coaching, last I heard. If he’s a former Mad Dog from Colorado Springs, someone please gimme a shout out with his contact info. I promise that I and my .357 will stay home until justice is served, but only because gas is at four smacks a gallon and I have to work the Tour for VeloNews and can’t edit Graham Watson pix from the Supermax.

and this from the comments log on org. link- sage advice. violence brings violence. our collective anger manifested in any form will only serve the accused.
“Although the driver’s information is now easily locatable by a simple google search, I’m asking on behalf of the two injured riders that nobody do anything that could hurt their case in court.
Don’t call him, don’t email him, don’t write him a letter or visit his house. Any of this could potentially damage their civil suit. “

Agree with sumadis, at least for now. Let justice grind on to a conclusion. It is far better if society sends this guy up the river on our behalf–that sends a more powerful social message than other actions bred out of frustration and rage. Which, after all, is what led to this event.

“Justice” may be served in this case, perhaps. I feel sorry for the hit-and-run solo cyclists left for dead.
I’m not swift enough to deliver “U-lock justice” at the time of offense, but I’ve thought about running a helmet cam to capture the license plate numbers of offending drivers. Most of us know guys… that know guys… that can get the registered driver’s name and address from the license plate number. Police, firemen, attorneys, you know, guys you might drink beer with from time to time.
Given the opportunity, I might consider offering share-the-road advice to the fuckwad in the black ’sclade that brushed me with his mirror in Issaquah last week.
I’m just sayin’.
Keep the rubber side down, y’all.

As I’ve been hit by 5 cars and dealt with many, many guys who pulled me over and started to yell at me with most trying to kick my ass, I’ve often thought about carrying a Glock on my rides.
The reason I have chosen not to is because I realized I’d probably use it.
A gun is really good at resolving a short term situation, but it has a way of opening a lot of long term problems.
Sadly, I still haven’t figured out how to better manage jackasses on the road.

I’m with Ryan. I leave the iron at home. If I had it with me, after what I’ve been through, I don’t want to think about might happen to the next redneck who swerves into me with his full size Dodge…
I’d bore tunnels in ‘em.

Carry a kitchen knife you can plant, call it self defense.
Seriously, there have been moments when I have gotten totally enraged at some asswad and wished I could shoot out their windows as they drove off, so it probably would be a bad idea for me to pack.
And the first time I had one of those explosive punctures I would probably shit my chamois thinking I somehow managed to cap myself.
Gary Klein used to eschew the merits of carrying guns, had some interesting thoughts.

fuck!! this shit has to stop with these lame ass drivers!!
packin heat.. hmm shit id smoke people.. better not. some dude in

The rage I feel when cars buzz me is part of the reason I don’t ride much anymore. It’s a good thing I never carried, because I can think if times where I might have used it. I’ve got to agree with Ryan, it would solve a short term problem, and cause a bunch of long term ones. Joking about killing someone with either a gun or a car isn’t funny. At all. Ever.
