After watching that video this evening during a well deserved study break, I have three things to say: Ian Stannard’s late lone bid was gritty (caught at 150 meters!), Gert Steegman is a monster, and Tom Boonen showed them all. Update: Stannard knows what the wind feels like. He is without fear.
Gent – Wevelgem 2011 finale
Gent – Wevelgem 2011
I have a rather sickly two year old at home (some vomiting yesterday & last night, but better this morning), so I was unable to sit in front of a computer to watch any of Gent – Wevelgem. That’s the way life goes sometimes, you know. It’s OK. I’d rather have a healthy kid on [...]
E3 Prijs Vlaanderen 2011
Fabian Cancellara took the top spot, crossing the finish alone. Source: http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/e3-prijs-vlaanderen-harelbeke-1-hc/e3-prijs-vlaanderen-harelbeke/photos/164894. After watching him bring the meat-rack and diesel it up proper, I will hereafter attempt to refer to him only as either C-Store or Big Oil for the balance of 2011. Just because I can. Dude brings it like a full display of [...]
Back to the ban again
Yeah, this all totally makes sense. USA Cycling on Tuesday reversed course and announced it would ban race radios at national level events, including National Racing Calendar and national championship events. The organization said the decision was made “based on concerns raised by cycling’s international federation, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).” Read the rest: http://velonews.competitor.com/2011/03/news/usa-cycling-switches-course-bans-radios-at-nrc-events_164898. 2011 Milan-San Remo: Grande Finale
Milan san remo 2011 final kilometres Tip ‘o the pint toward our own dirty biker for posting this link in the comment section earlier today.
Milan-San Remo 2011
Gossy. God damn right. Take a look at Cancellara’s face. Look at Gilbert. 300k of racing, most if it @ nearly 50k / hr. Absolutely flying. Story here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/milan-san-remo-his/results.
Schadenfreude
“enjoyment obtained from the troubles of others” Yup. Sounds about right. edited to add : I like the idea of buying local. Don’t we all? this is something I’ve had my eye on for a while. This year’s model is even more sick than the last. Fixie Inc’s PUREBLOOD. —bp

I’m probably off the back on this one too, but I’m going to share it anyway. Great insight into life in the caravan and how to remain cool, calm and collected as you wait for your bike change.
News update
Race Radios to be permitted in NRC competition again (March 11, 2011) — After gathering input from U.S. teams, riders, organizers, officials and other stakeholders, USA Cycling has determined that teams will be allowed to once again use race radios in National Racing Calendar (NRC) competition and at the USA Cycling professional and elite national [...]
The Classics 2011
The 2011 editions of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad & Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne are in the books, as well as the “not quite reached classic status but still totally badass” Strade Bianche. They all were awesome. The next event of real consequence (speaking strictly of European based, men’s Professional cycling, of course), Paris – Nice starts today and runs [...]
Ultimo Chilometro
We got this one from Kent over on the DC Facebook page. Gilbert, Ballan, Cunego, and Big Swiss were all up there. That is a lot of heavy hitters going into a very narrow final kilometer. Gilbert gets the straight baller award for the day. Watch and learn kids. Velosnooze coverage here. Milan-San Remo is coming up on [...]
The mental playlist of a 24 hour race.
Its a little late and there isn’t much more that I can report on here that hasn’t already been said by Gnome and D2 but I will give it a try. This year’s installment of Old Pueblo was by far the hardest one I have ever completed. It was filled with wind, rain, dust, mud, ups and [...]
