First impressions

A new bike for me is never a reality until I ride it. You know what I mean? Dominic gets excited about every little part, every detail. I am just kinna like ‘meh’ until it’s built and I am pedaling. I can sit and stare at it, post pictures of it, talk about it, blog [...]

Hong Kong on the leading edge of bike trends.

From: Response
Subject: HK bike trend?
I see this in HK only. 20 inch bikes with banana seats and home made aluminum extrusion sissy bars.
Allows an adult to ride a cheap kids bike for a fraction of the cost of the piley overpriced 20″ commuter bikes that are so popular here. I think there [...]

Pessimism and the Power of a Website: Zirbel taps out.

From Velonews.com:
American cyclist Tom Zirbel announced on his blog Friday that he is retiring from cycling rather than continue an aggressive fight against doping charges.
“I’ve decided to walk away from the sport,” he wrote, saying that he will not contest the 2-year suspension he received after testing positive for DHEA last year. Zirbel, who indicated [...]

Pessimism and the Power of a Website: A Message from Tom Zirbel.

We got an unsolicited email from Mr. Tom Zirbel recently regarding recent post of ours. The title alone is enough to tell you the direction it took, the author called it: Another one eats it. The tone was tough as we don’t often pull our punches.
From: Tom Zirbel
Hey man,
I’ve been getting [...]

“Oh, no I didn’t!” says The Floyd

I missed actually watching this program because 1) I pretty much can’t think of any reason to watch Larry King Live, and 2) I have no life. Now that we’ve cleared that up…
Landis appeared on CNN’s Larry King Live television show on Thursday night for an interview after the French justice system [...]

I too, was once young and fit.

Photo is of yours truly at the 2004 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo. I raced solo-single speed that year. I got sixth. Someone handed me a glass of draft beer immediately upon crossing the finish line. It just felt right.
Seems like a lifetime ago.
That was me on form. [...]

Fun like ten miles of bad road.

I’m not sure who took this photo, or where and when they took it. Or, for that matter, why they took it. Was it to memorialize something? A place in time? A road trip with friends? A crappy little exit somewhere off some soulless interstate highway?
Could be Arizona. [...]

Job Well Done!

A tip of the hat and a raise of the glass to the U of A cycling team for putting on an impressive race and for getting on the box this past weekend. David Glick of RideClean occupied the top step in the Men’s A field and former Luna Chix Chloe Forsman topped the box, [...]

Hat Trick

Yes, ladies and gentleman, that would be three (3) days of riding. In a row, no less.

Hard Reset

Damn the man! Hiding from reality under the covers this mornin, I decided I was working from home. What about work? Shit, I’m about one TPS Report away from hiding an open can of sardine’s in my boss’ office. Fugg ‘em. Coupled with the fact that my MBA program kicks off this weekend with a [...]

A report from the road

A report in from our South of the Border Correspondent, and everyone’s favorite Uncle, Pistil Pete.
From: Pistil Pete
Well, Mazatlan is fun, but too much to hang out in for too long. Of course our man at Kelly’s Bike’s will keep you rollin’ an’ all around the city is fantastic ridin’ but I had to [...]

Tuesdays with Dirty: The Commute

I have been riding my bike to work a lot lately. This gives me a couple hours per day to ponder life. In fact just about every post I have written here has been the result of that 1 hour each way on pancake flat streets. I do a few things to mix it up [...]

A report from our Far East Correspondent

From: Response
Subject: Chinese driving rules
I have only been riding in my Chinese town for 8 months.
I am the only white guy cyclist in a city of a few hundred thousand people. My biggest fear is that I will be hit by a car that is trying to avoid someone doing something stupid. Its just [...]

Wish you were here with me

It’s a secret. Well, it was a secret till now. I have been riding under the cloud of secrecy. Its easy to fall through the cracks down here in Tucson. So many roads, so many miles. People don’t know if your riding or not. They can only see that [...]

Cold Sweat

This one is a monster to the west of Town here in Tucson. If you have ever done it then you will know what I’m talking about. Wolfe used to say this one played for “keeps”. If you rode it right you had something left for the 50 mile trip home. [...]

when the going gets tuff, me too.

i rode this big jerk of a bicycle up a big jerk of a hill today.

it’s metal as fuck and weighs in just shy of the 50lb mark, what with its lo-ten tubes and all.  i once gave a tap of the screwdriver on the top tube to see what sort of pretty ring could be [...]

You had me at cockles

BikeSnob, as he is prone to, nailed this one in a recent post. And, yes, I don’t even try to be current. I just talk about what everyone else is already talking about.
Since the invention of moving pictures, only pornographers and the Nazis have documented their endeavors on camera more assiduously than the [...]

a stop at the tobacco shop

Every few months or so, I buy one of those little cigars.  I had to do something to get the sensation of the worst smell I have ever come across, and I’m convinced that tobacco is both a cancer fighter and causer, depending on your regularity of use.  I took one long stoke and passed [...]

First to Market

I derived from the bike intelligencer that Danny Macaskill now has a posse. Or some shit like that, as the LA Times has picked up on his capabilites. This seems appropriate and quite worthy of course since there’s not been a trials rider with talent such as his since Hans was the parade back in [...]
