His career was cut short in a horrific crash. I’ll not post the pics, gruesome stuff. Bottom line is that he never really recovered. And that was that. I read an interview, somewhere, in print, years ago, where he said the crash injured a tendon in his knee. When his knee healed up, it was never the the same. He said he didn’t even ride any more, he was eight years a pro and he’d go out on the bike he’d get passed by these duffers. He just couldn’t take it. Can’t say I blame him.

Wiki says his nickname was “Jerommeke-Woefi.” I have no idea what that means in English. Perhaps one of you out there can tell us in the comment section? I’ve heard he was called “The Bulldog.” Seems fitting. Dude looks like a brick house.
