Tuesdays with Dirty: Shakedown

Ten days. That is all that is left until Gnome, D2, Precious, myself, and a team of 4 sultry vixens head down to the Tucson desert to represent DC at Old Pueblo. I really can’t wait to get the suffering started. I spent a good amount of today riding the course and the trail is in perfect shape. The real reason for this ride was to shake down my new bike build for the event. Some would say it’s not a great idea to change a bike setup 3 weeks before a 24 hour sufferfest, and they would be right. I have never really been known for my great decision making skills. But I really couldn’t resist rolling my new wagon wheel Voodoo for the race.

DSCF1381Laps and wrenches were turned and I was the only one out there all day. There is even a little bit of new singletrack that is going to make an already terrific course extra sweet.

We seem to talk about this event quite a bit here and it is for good reason. It is hands down the best mountain biking event in Arizona…well, until the Whiskey happens.

I know the Stomparillaz are making it down from the frozen depths and dark places of Colorado. Also Team Bacon Strip will be bringing their own blend of Sierra rowdy to the event. Who else is coming out? Post up in the comments and lets drink some beers…

Until then, keep it dirty…

  1. good luck and most importantly have fun! i’ll be at Lucero suffering my own pain and shame.

  2. a single tear is shed every year that I miss this event. I have done several 24’s around the country & Old Pueblo is by far the best atmosphere, course & group of people. After working for Granny Gear back in the day, I didn’t think you could run a better event than Moab or Canaan, but Todd puts the fun back into the challenge. Even after blowing my knees on the Bitches & my wife racing while 3 months pregnant in a monsoon & all of the freezing halucination filled 4AM laps & finishing 4th 3 times, I got to give Epic Rides props for the best cycling events in the country.
Hell, I met Dirty at this event in the exchange tent around 2AM, he was handing out shots! I took one and raced off. I knew then we would be friends

  3. Ah, yes, Old Pueblo. After the year of snow, we tried again and it was a fucking blast. It’s just a bit too far to drive… The wife can’t sit still that long.

  4. Ayessir, excited! Got some sweet Exposure lights to play with, some sick Ergon grips, and a nice case of bronchitis!

Oh wait, that last part sucks. I slept not a wink last night thanks to a hacking cough. Here’s to hoping it’s gone by race day.

  5. Love that new single track section but I’m not sure they’ll include it in the course….
I’ll be out there attempting it solo so if you see someone in a yellow jersey with a greed running man on it, give me a shout of encouragement, especially in the early early mornings I’m going to need it.

  6. 3 weeks out and you prep a bike? Shit man, try 3 hours out. And I haven’t even ridden more than an hour in the past months.

Yea, I got probs. I’ll see you in hell.

  7. Just think Juanny, you could drive for 1.5 hours and hand up beers while it’s all fun and games on Saturday. Then you could leave before the crying begins later that night.

  8. Turkey & I got wind of this thing too. I think we may bring our wagon wheels and hard hats and come play.

  9. BJ, just get the fucking law school done (3 months!) and next year, come out and race it when me and dominic fly out for it. :0)

  10. Look for me, I’m going to try to find y’all motherfuckas. I will probably have beer and be drinking it way too early for a man my age.

  11. Yeah. That’s right. Team Mariachi will be representing DC to the best of our ability. How you like those wagon wheels Dirty?
I got my bike, my hard hat, my head lamp and maker’s mark. Do I need anything else?

  12. I enjoy you because of all of your efforts on this web site. Debby enjoys working on investigation and it’s really easy to see why. A lot of people hear all concerning the dynamic tactic you provide simple thoughts through the website and as well as invigorate participation from some other people on that idea and our princess is certainly studying a whole lot. Take pleasure in the remaining portion of the new year. Your conducting a tremendous job.
