It was in january 1985, during winter preparation for Bernard HINAULT.
Lanarvily’s cyclo cross race, takes place since 1958 in the very far west of France.

The badger didn’t win as he was just preparing for his 5th and last victory in Tour de France.

About big jonny

The man, the legend. The guy who started it all back in the Year of Our Lord Beer, 2000, with a couple of pages worth of idiotic ranting hardcoded on some random porn site that would host anything you uploaded, a book called HTML for Dummies (which was completely appropriate), a bad attitude (which hasn’t much changed), and a Dell desktop running Win95 with 64 mgs of ram and a six gig hard drive. Those were the days. Then he went to law school. Go figure. Flagstaff, Arizona, USA

  1. …nice cx in brittany video…

…& props, leif for dragging that one out again…

…the awesome laurence malone picks up his second national cx jersey in a row…when laurence rode ‘worlds’ he blew the euros away ‘cuz he was hoppin’ the barriers over there & at the time they weren’t used to that…

…second in that race in the light blue, yellow banded jersey of ‘velo club tamalpais’ was joe ryan & joe went on to later win a national cx championship jersey himself while in our club…

…gary fisher & joe ryan both rode for ‘velo club tamalpais’ along with a lotta the early mtb guys…

…every one of ’em will proudly tell you they were founders of that club & while it’s true, two particular guys, gil de la roza & yours truly, bikesgonewild created that club to bring all that bay area bike energy together…

…gil & i saw & wanted to bring that talent & intelligence to bear for more than just fun & bike racing & we accomplished that…we definitely were one of THE racing powers in nor-cal but we also involved ourselves in bicycle politics, the environment via the sierra club (yadda, yadda but in those days there actually was some cooperation) & health & safety issues…

…those kits plastered multiple sponsorships we all ride in nowadays ???…velo club tamalpais were the one & only club to lobby against single sponsorship being ‘shown’ on jerseys here in america at the time & it was finally accepted by the governing body – (now) usa-cycling…
…it also meant you could have more than something like 15 square inches of advertising, front & back, so your sponsors could be represented properly…

…there is a ‘california state law’ saying that if there is no local access road near a freeway & if you have to go (X) number of miles out of the way (i forget the actual mileage) you are allowed to ride on the side of the freeway from the last available local road access until the next available point where you can access local roads once again…
…true fact, our little club of dope smoking, beer drinking, hardcore cyclists accomplished that through the california legislature…

…anyway…just diggin’ on that cx vid ‘cuz it stirs memories of cycling history & accomplishments here in nor-cal…
