The man, the legend. The guy who started it all back in the Year of Our Lord Beer, 2000, with a couple of pages worth of idiotic ranting hardcoded on some random porn site that would host anything you uploaded, a book called HTML for Dummies (which was completely appropriate), a bad attitude (which hasn’t much changed), and a Dell desktop running Win95 with 64 mgs of ram and a six gig hard drive. Those were the days. Then he went to law school. Go figure. Flagstaff, Arizona, USA

  1. You guys on that side of the pond will have to help me with this. ‘Struck him from behind’ ? Over here, even if he was on the meridian line between lanes (ie anywhere other than in the opposite lane), striking him from behind immeadiately makes it driver error. Under UK law you cannot pass a vehicle, cycle, pedestrian unless you can see it’s safe to do so, but any insurance company will tell you a rear impact is, ‘the other guys fault’. Basically this guy was mown down. This guy did everything right (reflector etc) and didn’t make it home. Like the chief used to say in Hill Street Blues, ‘Let’s be careful out there….’ because you know the other road users are a Muppet Show……

  2. My biggest fear when riding. Getting nailed from behind. No chance at all.

Especially on the dinky country roads I travel.

Leatherwood needs a gift for his actions. I say 3 hots and a cot for, oh I don’t know, 50 years ??

    That sounds about right.

  3. run a mirror. dorky, to be sure, but a live dork is better than a dead icy hot stunta.

  4. For your info mikey…He had all the safety……Leatherwood feel asleep while driving……RIP Uncle Bob.

  5. Jesus that is one of the roads I use on a regular 50 miler. The shoulder on that road is almost a full lane width wide and relatively low traffic. That’s a shame. You would almost have to aim for someone to get them on that road.

  6. Mirrors are handy to have, but from what I could gather, all it might have done was to let him see it coming the instant before he got hit. Whoah, now there’s an unsettling thought. Anyway, my heart goes out to him and to all his loved ones. Be careful everyone, and let’s try to treat those close to us as thogh this was our last day on Earth. Because you never know.

  7. Yeah, I was asking why not even a ticket when I read the article, too. I even made a comment in the original article that this link was copied from, about why there was no ticket or charge in what seemed like an open and shut case.

  8. They don’t care about cyclists south of Rt 195 in Jersey. Roads are flat and wide and Dirty Jersey is right about “almost having to aim for someone” riding down there. I was always scared riding in that neck of the woods. It’s amazing that nothing happened to the driver but he was ‘taken to the hospital for observation’???

  9. The police are going to do a full investigation before charging him (I have seen it time and again) It is hard to wait for charges but I hope the family will get justice for their loved one. God bless…
