I don’t know who reads these emails, and at the moment I don’t care too much who reads it, but I want it to be read. Today, near Key Biscayne, a cyclist riding in a bike lane was hit from behind by a driver. It is currently being discussed by another cyclist involved in the accident on BikeForums.net. The full article is here: Miami HeraldBefore the article was edited, part of it read as, “The driver apparently dragged the crumpled bike for four miles. It’s unclear if the driver fled the scene.” The driver, with a windshield crushed 10 inches in, drove 4 miles after hitting a cyclist, and it’s unclear if he fled the scene? How the hell are newspapers dying when we have this bullshit spewing out of every corner of the internet? And here’s the kicker to the whole thing: it took the paramedic over 20 minutes to respond even with a fire station being only a couple miles away.
What’s wrong with our world?
The feel good:
As the cyclist fell to the pavement on Bear Cut Bridge, bleeding profusely, the car, a silver Volkswagen Jetta, barely paused, horrified witnesses said.

thanks for the post. i used to live down there and road that bridge on occasion. hopefully the courts response is better than the medics.

the comments on biker down articles on the newspaper sites are incredible.
always raises the question: What the Fuck is wrong with people.

My condolences to his friends and family.

Yup, those liberals in Volkswagens will often pause, but do nothing before simply moving on with their lives.

That’s just some messed up shit right there. I hate all of these stories, but this one seems especially bad.

People need to bomb that paper with WTF comments. 4 MILES and ‘PROBABLY’ fled the scene?!!?!
Seriously, I understand the concept of ‘innocence before guilt’ and all… but that is just bullshit.
Better put “It would seem the driver fled the scene.” or “Apparently the driver fled the scene, more details to follow.”
Im guessing drunken fratboy was freaked out and Fuck Him.
FUCK FUCK FUCK HIM IN THE ASS WITH A BIG BLACK DICK. THAT KID NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH SWIFTLY AND SURELY. STICK HIM IN SOME NEON LYCRA ON AN OLD STEEL ROAD BIKE AND MAKE HIM RIDE THRU THE MOST TREACHEROUS PARTS OF FLORIDA UNTIL HE GETS HIT FROM BEHIND. MAYBE HE DIES, MAYBE HE DOESN’T. AT LEAST HE’LL HAVE A BIT OF PERSPECTIVE ON WHAT HE DID AND WHY IT’S FUCKED. HE NEEDS TO GET BEATEN BY THAT CYCLISTS FRIENDS WHO USE THEIR U-LOCKS AS ‘ENHANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUIES’ HE NEEDS TO HAVE 100 GRIT SANDPAPER FOR A SADDLE AND BE FORCED TO RIDE A DOUBLE-CRIT, THEN JUMP IN A WARM SALT AND VINEGAR BATH.
THEN STICK HIM IN A CELL WITH THE BIGGEST COCK-HAVING DUDE IN THE PEN.
>rants off into the wilderness in his bathbobe and slippers, scotch in hand…<

See that mugshot? A portrait of remorse.
Judging by his expression killing people and ruining lives must be a real nuisance.

Why did fire-rescue take so long to respond, the guideline is 6 minutes from time of call to arrival at scene? Florida is a sunshine law state, which means all government documents are public records, so the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) event chronology for this accident, from the 911 center can be requested for review, that being said, litigation wont bring the cyclist back.
A concern would be, when this dirtbag makes bond, he could flee to a foreign country, not sure what his origin is.

Let’s see how if justice works, here is a tv show segement on this murderer:

What a d-bag. No valid drivers license and also held for immigration too. Tragic
January 18th, 2010 at 12:39 pm
You all dont even know this person or the state he may have been in. He is not an inentional killer, he would never try to hurt or kill anyone in this manner. There is a part of the story that no one knows. He was obviously in an incoherant state and sometimes accidents happen. Granted he shuld have not been driving, but you never know what may have been going on at that time with the driver. I send my prayers to both the cyclist family and the driver. It is a tragic story and something that I dont wish upon anyone to go through.

At least the manslaughter charge is there. Looks like the DA threw in a few more for show, hopefully at least one or two will stick.

Franchesca:
Sometimes accidents happen? An accident occurs when a tragedy occurs that was unavoidable by either party. Think of “acts of god”, etc
This was a collision, not an accident. Characterizing this as an accident implies a lack of responsibility or accountability. Do not characterize this as an accident.
Driving a vehicle under the influence and and killing someone is a crime. Failing to remain at the scene to offer aid is a crime. Speeding away from the scene (dragging a bicycle for 4 miles no less) is a crime. This was no accident.
Anyone in a mental or chemical state that impairs their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle has NO BUSINESS BEHIND THE WHEEL. End of discussion. That was a criminal act that resulted in the death of another.
Not sure when people will get that message through their thick skulls.

I imagined today the sick thoughts and sweating mad lunacy that must have been going through that sick, sick man’s head after having had his way with ‘one of them cyclists in the road’ and then driving on down the road?!?!?!
I imagined that the victim had a painful death, and a sad one. I hope his last moments were bliss. I hope his family and people that know him recover and make forgiveness in their hearts, but for me, I cannot do such.
For the murdering scumbag that did this: I say the worst thing I have ever said about anyone, ever: I wish for you a shameful, ignoble death. I hope your death is longer and more fearful than that of the man you killed. But before that, I hope that there are some bicycle riding motherfuckers in your block who treat you with less sympathy or discretion than child rapists. I hope, no, I pray… that you live long enough to be an example to other psychotics that this is a no no…. you sick sorry man.

This probably WAS an accident. Do you think this dick was out trolling for cyclists to mow down? Probably not. That was likely an accident. And negligence. Inadvertent murder. That is the bad part. Then it gets worse.
The part that tells the real story, in my opinion, is what was done after hitting the cyclist. Driving down the road. Running away. Leaving someone to possibly (and ultimately) die. That sums it up. Accidents can happen, especially when you are irresponsible enough to cruise along impaired, unlicensed etc. The rest is no accident. scared? maybe. probably. but that is no excuse. THAT is a conscious decision. To hurt someone and leave them to whatever fate so your sorry ass might not suffer.
Yes, I hope this asshole suffers a lot. Even if he is a really nice guy he made a series of choices with catastrophic results. That is not something that can be brushed off.
I can’t say this is the same as child rape, but it is certainly an evil in it’s own right. The evil of selfish people.
I think that a long life of living in remorse of this would be the ultimate punishment, but then I wonder if this kind of person would really have remorse. That is the sickest thing to me.
You made your bed man…now sleep in it.

wow!! I understand what everyone has said but wow!! this is not the first time something like this has happened, I hope that more and more people please choose to not drive under the influence of anything. I cant believe the anger and hate that you all wish upon people. Just your words alone are bad karma for yourself. Dont you think this person is paying and will pay for the rest of his life for this? How sad for the victim and his loved ones. How dare the things you angry people wish upon others. This was something that could’ve been avoided but this was also the fate of these two people. God have mercy on them!!! What a sad sad story for everyone involved.

I just puked in my mouth a little.

dallasdiva –
You hit the key point here, I think, with your statement “Dont you think this person is paying and will pay for the rest of his life for this?”
I’ll venture that many here believe the simple answer is “no”.
After seeing such incidents get little punishment previously, the anger has built up to serious levels. How can you expect any sympathy for a guy that hits someone and flees, leaving them dead/to die?
Not sure if your moniker has to do with Dallas TX, but if so, maybe you are familiar with this recent story:
http://www.wfaa.com/news/Family-of-cyclists-killed-by-drunk-driver-outraged-by-sentence-79577352.html
stoies like these are fueling this anger.

Dallasdiva:
I emailed this to Gnome in order for my own anger to be vented. Think of it this way: if it were… your brother that was smashed into from behind and left with what was described by a horrified witness as a “puddle of blood, and bodily matter” would you not feel as angry as the rest of us? Do you honestly think that this man’s intentions to get into a vehicle while intoxicated, hit a cyclist, and keep on driving for FOUR FUCKING MILES were accidents? I for one, don’t. Call me a cynical bastard for all I care, but this was NOT an accident.
I, as an individual, believe in a higher power. I also believe in something called free will. If this whole world were based on fate, and this accident was meant to happen, then I guess I’m fated (ya, it’s a word) to “wish anger upon people” and go to some fiery place. I’m not trying to get into a religious debate, but if fate exists in a religion, karma cannot. Thanks for attempting to insult us (me?) though.
