Tuesdays with Dirty: dirt roads and tight clothes

Lets set the record straight, I’m not a road racer. I am first and foremost a mountain biker with some strong roots in BMX. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be addicted to everything bike. As a youngster racing downhill my mind was closed to all the other bikes out there. We used to call the roadies and the XC guys “high seaters”…because for some reason riding a long time in the woods or on the road was considered un-cool to us then. Oh how times change.

Now I find myself wandering the roads for days at a time on a tour or riding a 24 hour race solo. But I see a lot of bullshit out t here on the road. Power meters, 14 pound bikes, carbon this and carbon that, electric zappy shifting bullshit. Sometimes you just have to say “fuck all that noise” , throw a sandwich in your jersey pocket and head out on a dirt road to nowhere .  Happy Tuesday. Keep it dirty.

  1. F’kna dude. Sounds like we be birds of a feather. NIce view. This mountain bIker rocks the Campy shit also. Full fingers on the gloves and a visor on the helmut just so they know where I’m coming from. What’s in your sammich?

  2. You speak the truth. I even like the tighties in the dirt, baggies just snag too much for me. Road started it all here, now if I just had more dirt roads near by, my mint ’72 Raleigh Pro might see more action….

  3. Word on the full fingers, SPDs, visor, NiteRider mount, and backpack with at least one beer on my annual ‘roadie’ century. Or just about any ride on any bike for that matter.

  4. I spend alot of time on blacktop because that’s mostly where I can ride anytime. Besides, my singletrack skills suck. But I am not now and have never been a roadie. I’m just a guy who likes to ride my bike.
