Two Down in Tulsa

Wednesday should be the point at which the downhill slide into an enjoyable weekend begins. I guess sometimes that just can’t be the case. DC was provided a couple of emails to this one, which undoubtedly is having a significant bummer effect on this humpday.

Even though all three riders who were hit Tuesday were wearing helmets, the collision was the worst Warren has seen in his several years as a trooper, he said.

The collision weighed heavily on many members of Tulsa’s cycling community, who contend with aggressive drivers on almost every ride, said Carolyn Fairless, a member of the Tulsa Bicycle Club.

“We’re very much aware of how vulnerable we are as bicyclists,” she said. “I’m all about bicyclists rights to share the road, but we’re no match for a vehicle.”

    RIP God Speed

WOW I hope we don’t get the anti bike DUI sympathizers like Darell, Kelly and Dana on this thread. Remember them defending the last Biker death by DUI?

Helmets off? Typically if they are removed by officials they go with the victim

  2. Gnome Says:

They way I read it, the helmets were part of the carnage. I’m not sure they were removed intentionally. Darell and all those shitbirds… oh man, nobody needs that.

  3. el jefe Says:

“But she was such a good person…”

That picture sends chills down my spine.

  4. nickelbag Says:

that is pretty depressing on all fronts

  6. pietro Says:

Hope these poor souls didnt have rear view mirrors

  7. Erik Ryberg Says:

That photograph should be published in every driver’s manual in the country.

  8. Taylor Says:

Looking at it makes me ill.

  9. The Sage Says:

Holy Shiite Bat Man! That’s a huge mess! What stikes me is how F-n’ big that shoulder is. There’s no excuse for someone getting hit on a tarmac like that…

  10. Sam Says:

Makes me sick inside. Drunk bitch needs to move her shit to a cell.

  11. ColonelSanders Says:

I can see a defense regarding this but only because it’s not just about the bicycle angle that is, obviously, used here.

Back in ‘92, I watched a kid get hit. 11 years old according to local paper. Slammed by a car as he walked across the street. Driver drunk. Kid DOA.

To this day I close my eyes and that memory breaks my heart.

Should it break any less because he wasn’t riding a bike ?

The problem isn’t drunk/lazy/useless fucktards running over bikers.

It’s drunk/lazy/useless fucktards running over anyone.

I say the bitch should be shot in the back of the head. And that belief doesn’t just appear because the dead were riding bikes.

Peace out. I need a beer.

  12. Mikey Says:

Jesus, I just spent four hours banging elbows with angry, distracted SUV drivers on the roads of east Pugetropolis… excuse me while I go out in my driveway and kiss the earth.

    Mikey

  13. Nick Says:

Friggin horrible. Scares the shit out of me.

  14. HUMPTY Says:

    Dude,

Been hit by a car – Austin 2000.Multiple knife jobs later in 2001, a drunk redneck tried to hit me, College, and Killer Vaughan on the damn loop. When he stopped and got out of the car it was on like Dinkey Kong. we Rodney Kinged him. College literally broke a frame pump over his head and drove his kankles into his ribs.
Would like 5 minutes alone with this bitch, Rodney King her ass, tighten up her shit hole. Hope she sees that picture in her head every fucking night before she tries to sleep.

  15. ottoride Says:

bad shit… i hope they do something to make the streets safer. we stopped riding a lot of roads because of the danger of being hit.

Greetings from Tulsa. A very sad and disturbing day to say the least. I only recognize the woman who died and vaguely knew the man that died, but that’s neither here nor there. They are us and we are them.

Best wishes to everyone and please stay safe.

  17. sommerfliesby Says:

Jeezus. Just got back from a ride thru lovely suburbia dodging traffic with my wife. Guess you just never know when it could be you. Godspeed to both, and good luck to the third guy.

As for the woman…punishment should fit the crime…she took life, she should be giving hers up.

  18. Taylor Says:

This quote was published in a story last week in the Arizona Daily Star. The guy is talking about the driver of a car who hit and killed his brother on a bicycle:

“It’s kind of hard to explain. He’s 19, he did a dumb thing. I really don’t want to go after him and hurt him. The only way my brother’s death makes sense is if he (Segebartt) becomes a better person and learns from it. I don’t want to ruin him, as his life is just beginning. I’m hoping he’ll straighten out.”

    Pretty damn instructive.

  19. Opus the Poet Says:

I keep telling people that SUVs are more deadly than Dirty Harry’s favorite caliber by a couple orders of magnitude, then this woman takes out 2 out of 3 targets with a single shot (impact). If this doesn’t prove that driver’s licenses need to be harder to get and much easier to lose than nothing will.

  20. butthead Says:

    Taylor you are a fag

  21. The Overlord Says:

Damn. God bless those riders and their families.

I don’t ride road, either, anymore, because of shit like this. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I think a cyclist should be able to carry a gun to protect one’s self against vehicles. Mass versus mass, a .45 slug travelling subsonic speeds might carry at least some closer fraction of the energy of a moving car.

If a car starts bumping up against you, put a couple slugs into the engine compartment. After a few cycle-vigilante events happen around the country, maybe people would give bikers some room.

In my heart, I know this is just anger talking, and I know it would just cause escalating violence. So I just stay the fuck off the road, ride singletrack, and fantasize about busting out the Desert Eagle & squeezing off a few rounds into the side of a fucking Escalade.

  22. big jonny Says:

The quote Taylor put up is on point. My story is much the same. We can talk about forgiveness later. But, for now, know that seeing someone go to jail doesn’t make the pain go away.

At least it didn’t for me.

  23. Gnome Says:

    word.

  24. possumcult Says:

i don’t think there’s any compassion whatsoever due , negligence is just that. Its just an accident to a suv its death to us.I agree a certain amount of vigilante force is needed even on close calls .We nedd to wake and shake up the drivers and the police .Ihave some sort of incident every week on my commute, usually its intentional red neck bullshit if we could just shoot a couple of these assholes people might start taking this seriously. Up here in far nor cal people drive vehicles intended for war,it was so nice when gas was almost 5 bucks a gallon , the streets were a much safer place.Pour one out for the bikers down and fight like a mutherfucker.

  25. Mark in Saint Louis Says:

I’ve read that the stupid drunk bitch actually swerved into ‘em. That shows intent.

She shouldn’t EVER get out of prison. Period.

  26. Be Safe Kids | Fuck Gas Says:

[...] The above scene took place last week in Tulsa. I just felt it deserved a repost. Read about it over at Drunk Cyclist. [...]

  27. Paul Says:

I have my fingers crossed for justice. My condolences to the victims families.
