el jefe- what I loike about F1 is those guys make NASA look like a high school science fair. I understand that every single team uses full-scale, high-speed wind tunnels. And 19,000 RPM at a specific power density of ~350 horsepower per liter displaced is… insane pneumatic valve trains. Serious cubic dollars required.

Give me F1. Although I know the “stock” cars go almost as fast on a road course, they never look as good doing it… bouncing all over the place and shit. In circles, it’s both boring and ugly.

For some reason, I actually like watching NASCAR on TV…though it’s better live…the track is right down the street from my house and I’ve only gone once…just too damn expensive. I was one of those guys who said “How hard could that really be? Certainly it’s not an ATHLETIC endeavor to drive a car in a circle?” Then I did the Richard Petty Driving Experience…10 laps in a full-blown Cup car. 750 horses, unmuffled. You have an “instructor” in the car with you, but you can’t even talk to him its so loud. I hit 165 on the straight, and muscling around those turns is DEFINATELY no picnic. I simply cannot imagine doing it with 40 other guys around…at 200 mph. These guys are a rare breed for sure…much respect to them. Now I’m gonna go get me a PBR and watch that clip a couple more times.
