  1. Nick Says:

He didn’t make the cut american idol..

  2. Hevikevi Says:

    The truth hurts

  3. gob Says:

Maybe we should all just refer to Lance as Cancer-Man from now on. He says he want’s to raise awareness, after all, so from here on out, it’ll be “Man, did you see that attack that Cancerman laid down? Wow, Cancerman was really pumping out the watts today.”

  4. giantcu92 Says:

That’s just funny, I don’t care who you are, or what your beliefs are. Thing is, I don’t think these hose-hounds like this person (is it a man or a woman? I can’t tell) should be getting in the damn way of the race. He/she got in the way, and got a little friendly shove. Well done sir I say, well done.

  5. Jim Says:

    Holy Yellow Snow Geekman

  6. ColonelSanders Says:

No matter the opinion on LA….good to see that costumed fat fuck got planted.

  7. whiskytango Says:

A hundred bucks the fruit boots tries to sue for battery.

  8. Brian Says:

Get the fuck out the way you fat asshole.

  9. Wa2wider Says:

Apparently Pharmstrong did not recognize his Oncologist.

  10. Evil_Bumpkin Says:

Look Mom..I got Photoshop for Christmas!!

  11. yahdancer Says:

That can’t be real – the syringe is too small

  12. big jonny Says:

At least he didn’t get his bars caught up in some kids bag this time.

Check the ripples on LA’s arm – he gave tubby a good pull there, didn’t he? Good to know you still have that fire in your belly, Mr. Armstrong. Do us all proud.

  13. giantcu92 Says:

“We’ve got a douchebag down! I repeat, a douchbag down!!”

(Got to say it in the Mike Meyers Scottish brogue from So I Married an Axe Murderer)

  14. zhupunk Says:

I say good show, mas respect un papa lima or something. I woulda done it if ida had the time and gumshion. Lance is pretty much a douche, if you want to be a savior, act like one.

  15. zhupunk Says:

I just love all the guys in the back smiling

  16. Bikepunk Says:

Asshole. Now I know what to do this summer.

  17. Kerbouchaud Says:

Looks like a roadie kicked the steriod habit…..

  18. dave Says:

Apparently Weebles DO fall down. Whodathunk?

  19. -dan Says:

you guys got it all wrong. This IS the dude that has been juicing Dopestrong for years. I can’t believe someone actually got a picture of it. I heard rumors, but damn, to see it in person. wow. Lancy Pants wasn’t shoving him, it was more a reach around to make sure the needles hit thier mark. See how there are two, one for each ass cheak? Guess there will be no stage win from the King, huh?

  20. Crank Says:

Screw Lance. Just another cheater. Gods and heros die. Who can spend the most on drugs? Oh look, a yellow jersey.

  21. dave Says:

Funny how the entire Frog nation used every means at their disposal, both fair and foul to trip him up, and consistantly came up empty. Not that the facts mean anything. France is Socialist, you know, and for one such as Lance to have so much ability and not give accordingly when there are so many with needs-Well, it just isn’t fair.

Seriously-After seven Tour victories and half his adult life spent as one of the most rigorously tested athletes in the world, where is the proof?

And no, Lance is not my hero or whatever. But the facts should at least be given a nod.

  22. Bee-an-key Says:

Great stuff, truth hurts. Let’s see if Velonews, Bicycling… run that photo of their hero.

  23. Dave Einstein Says:

Bristol-myers squibb was a big sponsor to Lance in every aspect.

  24. Husky Midget Says:

The last pic looks like Chris Farley back from the dead.

  25. Evil_Bumpkin Says:

Screw that jackass he got what he deserved…we all know there are dopers in the peloton including the Lance (even though he’s never been caught) but at least they are trying to be proactive. Why doesn’t fucktard show up at MLB or NFL games with his rightous bullshit? Oh ya..cause the drunken mob would lynch his ass. Go piss on someone else’s parade..I want to get back to enjoying pro cycling.

  26. Taste the Sunshine! Says:

Ok Im gonna say somethin stupid here but follow me for a second. It all just popped in my mind…this is not how I really feel…ok..

SO…Athletics is something that we as humans go and watch…and pay for. So…are movies, tv shows, etc. Both would qualify as “entertainment”. So, why do we attack athletes who use performance enhancers to make what they do for entertainment better…when we dont attack actors and actresses for going out and getting all sorts of operations to make their appearance better? (which is what they do for entertainment)

    Does anyone follow me…?

  27. big jonny Says:

I think we attack the athletes, at least I do, for two reasons: 1) doping is illegal, and 2) They all lie about it.

No doubt about it, you were not supposed to be injecting EPO in 1999. Did just about everyone do it anyway? Yes. Did they all say, “I don’t do drugs”? Yes. Even when facing a mountain of evidence to the contrary, many continue to proclaim their innocence. Some don’t, some admit to it. And they gain no benefit, other than making peace with themselves I suppose. Maybe there should be mitigating factors? If you get tagged and come clean, both literally and figuratively, you should receive a lesser punishment than those who continue to lie about their drug use and even continue their drug use.

    I just hate the lying.

That’s the worst part. I don’t give a goddamn about baseball (seriously, I could not care less) but waving your finger and saying “I have not used steroids”, when, in fact, you have is pretty much pathetic. A lot of them did use steroids in baseball. And, undoubtedly, a lot of them still do.

Why use PEDs? You use them because the drugs work. You will be better with drugs than you can every hope to become without them. It’s not so much the weak trying to catch up, it’s the best getting better. And when it’s that pervasive, when everyone is doing it – drug use becomes mandatory.

That’s where I get sick of it. Either make the drugs legal or run them out. Don’t pretend there is no problem. And I’m not just talking about cycling here. I’m talking about all the big sports with huge drug issues. Recognize it and accept it by legalizing it, or actually test people and fucking ban them.

    Rant over.

  28. dave Says:

The talent of actors, especially these days, is largely based on subjective evaluation. The talent of athletes can be expressed precisely in cold hard numbers. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

  29. dave Says:

Good points all, Jonny. Amazing how alike we are when we stay the fuck out of politics. But how does all of that square with the unproven and mostly unfounded allegations against Lance? Suspicions, innuendo, “Where there’s smoke…”; no athlete has been more rigorously tested. A public lynching by the French media, and still nothing. Where is the proof?

  30. Oldin Sloe Says:

I agree with the above, the best part is the BIG smiles on the guys behind Lance……….

  31. Gnome Says:

Lance is just the focal point, and 7 TdF’s is going to provide considerable defense simply by default. His song is the same as any other, less the variable details.

Taken in context, cyclist “lie” out of necessity. If PED’s are the norm (which they are/were), and you are the one ousted as PED’s are eradicated, what choice do you have? Try to defend yourself via “lies” against a highly falable system as it figures itself out, wagering the chance that you might escape prosecution through a technicality; or come clean publicly, relieve yourself from the pressure, and lose your career in the same breath (to my knowledge, the only one to actually benefit from this method, was Riis, who is without question, as shrewd politically, as he was competitively) . I believe the doping era is concluding, but at the same time, from Pantani-to-Chicken, there just wasn’t any way to “come clean” without loosing either through prosecution, or the relative inability of riding clean. Either way, the job and notoriety was lost. No way around it. Therefore, Lie & try to work the system for salvation. Remember, doping has been ingrained within the pelican since WWII. It was embraced as a positive method of maximizing ability, not as a scourge of evil. Heritage is not something easily avoided, no matter how simplified anyone attempts to make the pelican, and living within it, seem. The choice to “not dope” was not appropriate if success was the point.

  32. Gnome Says:

Oh, and we attack athletes due to arbitrary morality & a public need for tangibility. We, in general, need to “know” that we can “do the same thing” as them (through hard work and dedication)since they’re just humans too. With PED’s, there is a disconnect… a disenfranchisement, we get upset, and then draw a line of acceptable standards… morality.

As well, sport is not pure entertainment. It is a tangible, elevated example of the human endeavor in its pusuit of perfection. Again, we the people need to know that we too, can do it should we desire. It’s quite a bit different than “entertainment” even though it is entertaining as well.

  33. John Says:

What’s a picture of a bike race doing on DC?

  34. patrick Says:

    john wins

  35. Rickie Rainwater Says:

That nut case in the outfit is a total AssHole. He needed more than just a shove. He should have been arrested for endangering the riders. Mr. Armstrong should be applauded for his action.

  36. erik bost Says:

love horner’s smile in the background

  37. Gnome Says:

    Horner Rocks.

  38. Stan Thomas Says:

Who does that fat prick think he is? If I’d be there I’d have popped the mother. Good on ya, Lance.

  39. assfacehead Says:

big johnny can go fuck himself, but this is funny.
    do drugs
    get high
    fuck yourself
    go die

  40. chris francis Says:

i would love to meet this man. he obviously has too much time on his hands, yet not using it to exercise. maybe he should quite jerking off and do some hgh. might get laid more. i am so tired of these fucks. i would pay money for the ability to punch this guy in the face.

if you are so upset. find another sport to follow.

  41. Scott Says:

To Crank, Dan, Big Jonny, gob, hevikevi bee-an-key: You are all little wimpy faggots and worse – you so lack intelligence. You hide in a blog in an attempt to defame one of the greatest athletes and activists of our generation. Disclaimer: I am not a big Lance fan. I don’t give a shit how many Tours he won. It is not because I think he is a doper. Truth is for all of us – there is no credible evidence. Period. I believe in truth. My opinion doesn’t much matter. Here is a truth: hundreds of thousands of people die an evil, nasty, death due to cancer every year. Any of you fucksticks watched a great friend or family member wither away well before there time stricken with cancer?? Say what you want about Lance as a person, a racer, whatever. He has put his money and time where his big mouth is. I should think at least that is admirable. We live in a time where every scumbag – even the fat fuck retard in the picture – gets their 15 minutes. At least the guy genuinely tries to inspire some people who are inflicted with the dreadful disease of cancer. Please do not mock him – tomorrow, you may find out your mother has cancer – then you will be begging him for wisdom. I am not saying you have to like the guy – but please respect his mission.

  42. bikesgonewild Says:

…back when the earth was young & the sport of bicycle racing was born out of the dirt & asphalt, ‘les froggies’ wrote the book on “enhancement”…& while mr landis (’member him ???) was undoubtedly on the same program as mr armstrong back when they worked together, i still think he got ‘french lab-ed’ on the last go around…

…anyway…this above discussion is much more palatable because it’s inclusive of more than one fucking guy…to paraphrase, “it takes a peloton”…& that’s the one serious issue i have, in that the “lance haters” never point fingers beyond armstrong & the few who made admissions …

…in other words, ‘there was something fishy about the whole pelican’

…gnomer, juan grande & others raise some excellent points in discussing the sport as a whole…gnomer’s “sport is more than entertainment” paragraph is a beautifully succinct example…

…anyway, i gotta go earn a living, but nice to see some erudite discussion rather than just ‘the one man slam’…

  43. Alan Says:

    Maybe thats A-Rods cousin

  44. big jonny Says:

    Scott,
I have seen cancer take away my relatives. Several, in fact. Several. Why should they be lied to? Because it makes them more comfortable?

And there is a lot of credible evidence. What Armstong did is nearly impossible without help. He dominatied a doped field during the big drug years. If you knew about doping, you’d know what that means.

Ever hang out with someone who rode on Motorola? How ’bout someone who worked for the team? Ever hear them tell you what went on? I have. I know what I know. And you don’t know anything.

  45. pirata Says:

Looks like DC just got a nice drop on Velonews’s live ToC coverage:

    http://www.velonews.com/live/index.php?id=88363 or see below

    12:07 PM: An unusual encounter
We had heard about the interaction between Lance Armstrong and the so-called “LiveClean Devil” the other day, but we missed it.

Our friends at DrunkCyclist happen to capture the exchange, though. http://drunkcyclist.com/2009/02/20/caption-this-54/
(Word of warning, although it’s changed over the past couple of years, The Drunk Cyclist site still ain’t exactly family fare.)

  46. bikesgonewild Says:

    …oh, & speaking of slams…

…just like “snowbank drug man” who’ll forever cherish & talk about the fact that “lance ‘fucking’ armstrong himself actually pushed me into a snow bank ‘cuz he was so upset about my costume”

…well, no dipshit…you & a lotta fucktards, rather than stand on the side of the road to cheer or spread yer message, actually manage to impede the flow of the bike race by getting in the way…you got ‘banked’…snowbanked…you’ve got ‘clue nada’…

…like the moron w/ the texas #7 jersey & the longhorns on the football helmet…(1)- i’m watching a bike race & i gotta be subjected to you constantly seeking your selfish moments of glory ???…wtf ???…how much money have you wasted all around the world just to say “i’m a major douche” ???…it all started & ended in europe w/ the original “le devil” at the tour…everything else is cheap imitation…
…(2)- you don’t think that activity causes consternation in the peloton when you run in the middle of the fucking road ???…these guys have their own concerns amongst themselves w/ issues of crashing…way to add to the pressures, egobitch…this is a working environment, this is the office of the racing cyclist…
    …show a little ‘real’ respect…

  47. Jake the Cat Says:

I wish someone, anyone, after all these years and tests would produce some evidence. Then the cynics of the world could say they were right and just shut up. Frankly I like Lance and don’t care if he ever doped or not–I don’t think he did, Floyd likewise, Tyler did, Basso tried to, Millar got caught, and on and on. LA is attempting to do something positive with his notoriety. The naysayers will never be able to say that…………is it jealousy over his success or envy that he is actually able to make a contribution to this world? If only us bloggers had something positive to add to our existence.

  48. T.C. Says:

Since WWII? The history of doping in cycling goes back much further than that. It was extremely common even back as far as the first Tour de France, and even earlier. So really, you can say that doping in cycling is as old as professional cycling itself.

  49. dd Says:

Why do cyclist shave leg and embrocate. casue it feel so good. Fuck dopers less this the bud. not light.

  50. Dan Keeney Says:

Syringe-wielding man gets a snow job from Lance Armstrong.

  51. Dan Keeney Says:

    Wait, this one’s better:

Lance Armstrong proves he really is a drug pusher.

  52. assfacehead Says:

    GOD DAMN THE PUSHER MAN!

  53. pirata Says:

Now that would be an exciting race, a bunch of stoned cyclists.
100 mile stage would probably take about 11 hours.

I agree that heresay shouldn’t be used to condemn a person, but those involved in the sport directly tend to know what is going on. The peleton has a pretty good feel who is and isn’t doping, and then there are all of those involved with running a team…
I am not a lawyer but I believe that if you get enough circumstantial evidence you can convict, and I think that is what has happened with Lance in the minds of many. May not be a smoking gun, but it seems that most involved in the sport would argue towards Lance being a doper.

  54. pirata Says:

And elsewhere in the peleton, Boonen disappointed to learn that “California Snow” was meant literally…

  55. Scott Says:

    Big Jonny,
There are many cowards who can say “I know something”, “you don’t know anything”. OK, I’m game. Have the balls to say what you know, or shut your trap. Big time allegations provide opportunity for big time evidence. Tell us what you “know”. Is this first hand knowledge? Or, perhaps, did you Frankie Andreu, and his wife have a threesome and they told you all about Lances doping?? Were you with team Motorola?? Perhaps you doped with Lance? Show us what you got. Otherwise, you are just another pussy hiding behind your keyboard. Pretty pathetic, wouldn’t you say? Either speak up or admit you are another spineless pussy, among many, who have no evidence, yet use any opportunity to slam someone because they are better than you.

I am not sure what Lance is lying to cancer survivors about. He launched a campaign that has raised over 250 mil for cancer research. What have you done?

  56. Snake Hawk Says:

YOU AIN’T GOT NO WINS IN MI CASA.

    hayyyyyyyyyy-terrrrrrrrrrrz.

  57. Mikey Says:

So the odious Mr. Armstrong, one of the best TT riders in history, comes in 14th at the Solvang TT.

Looks to me like he pulled A FUCKING TON for Mr. Leiheimer, who by the way, wins the Tour.

    I’m impressed. That’s professional.

  58. Mark Says:

    Score:

    Lance 1

    Fat Fuck 0

  59. rodster Says:

Wow, with all the evidence available indicating Lance doped I cannot believe there are still those out there that choose to bury their heads in the sand and declare it a huge french conspiracy.

1n the 1999 Tour De France (TDF) Lance tested positive for cortisteroids. All prescriptions (terapeutic use exemptions, aka TUE) for banned substances MUST be submitted prior to the event. After a tainted 1998 tour the FRENCH organizers didn’t need another scandal especially with the feel good story of the cancer survivor in yellow. The FRENCH organizers allowed a post dated prescription for saddle sore cream to be submitted to brush the positive test under the mat so that they could reap the benefits of an American win and increased exposure of their event in the US.

Also in 1999 there was no test for EPO. Years later “B” samples from that year were tested to see if EPO could be detected in stored samples. Multiple samples tested positive. Meanwhile (as rumors of Lance doping in Europe have been rife for years) a French journalist asked Lance if he’d had any TUE’s for testosterone as a result of losing a testicle to cancer. Lance divulged his codes for drug tests in 99 and lo and behold his codes matched 6 of the samples positive for EPO.

Then we have the disposal of Actovegin by US Postal employees during a subsequent tour, the testimony of the Andreu’s (against their will) in the SCA case, etc etc.

    But you know what?

I don’t care if he did or didn’t. It’s history. That era was rife with blood manipulation and all the biggies were doing it.

Lance’s legacy is tainted, the sport has fallen into significant disrepute as a result of the doping positives. I applaud the efforts that the TDF organizers made to rid their race of cheats but alas it all seems for naught.

They’re hurting financially. The doping scandals: Floyd stripped of his yellow jersey, Razzie ejected while wearing yellow, Vino popped for blood doping after winning the time trial, Schumacher, Kohl, Ricco nailed last year for CERA not to mention that Ullrich, Basso and Lance have all been proven dirty. It’s taken a toll. German TV will no longer televise the tour. Teams are folding as they can’t find sponsors. TV packages, a big income source for the organizer, no longer are worth as much.

The leadershp of ASO (the TDF organizers) have booted anti-drug Prudhomme and edicted that L’Equipe (newspaper they own that revealed Lance’s 6 EPO positives in 99) quit doing cycling doping stories.

and surprise surprise, guess who makes a comeback, hiding behind the cloak of cancer fighter . . .

    Groan!

  60. rodster Says:

Oh yeah, and the guy in the Liveclean devil suit is a douche just like all the other dipwads that impede the race for their 30 seconds of TV fame.

  61. cwbyker Says:

I like riding bikes. I like watching bike races. I’ll never compete in the Tour so I couldn’t care less about doping issues. For all we know Eddie was high on uppers, Hinault was on coke, and Lemond was a drunk. So What. We’ll never be on that level so it’s not for us to judge. If I had the chance to win the Tour your damn straight I’d use everything I had at my disposile to win that fucker. Wrong, Yes. Earth shattering, No.

Although all opinions are allowed and welcomed, It’s not a good Idea to be a DICK and insult the founder of this site. If you think he’s that bad you don’t have to visit to this site.

  62. Bee-an-key Says:

    Scott,
I spent last summer watching a relative die of cancer and never thought about Lance once. Does that give me enough street cred for you or am I hiding behind a blog. FU. Lance has made money for his cause and helped people, that’s nice. I take nothing away. But, if us pussy’s are right and with his money and the help of PharmaSponsors he was using a product that was years ahead of the testing then what? Remember when he talked about the future would be genetic doping? Like a ton of other celebrities all the good, the talent, is corrupted when we find out he has been lying. Which makes him less than a man. Call me a pussy but I sleep well not being a liar. Michael Phelps, Olympic hero or pot head? ARod? The Track and Field stars of the last 15 years? The German Women Swimmers in the 70’s didn’t fail a test at the Olympics, but looked a bit juiced. Arnold lied about steroids and got to work at the White House. So when he wins 7 tours and the rest of the top ten every year has been tainted in a sport tainted that catches only a handful of people, yeah. And when you know riders in the 70’s and 80’s that were clean when they went to Colorado Springs and came home doped by the USCF, been in the barn at the Lehigh Velodrome, had plenty of Euro exchange riders, watched PROs laugh at the testing procedures; I can believe what people in the sport tell me. Sorry if I can’t prove it in a court for you like you want. He had made a lot of money for a good cause, gets to screw a lot of celbrity chicks and party like a rock star. Good for him, his ego, his power trip, Nike, Trek, his kids, the limelight. Too bad for LeMond, Kimmage, Frankies Wife, us haters….. hope I don’t get sued.
Get a sense of humor. Sorry you have been touched by cancer, plenty of us have. That is why it is more offensive that the spokesperson may very well be full of crap about his clean comeback, his purity. I’ve got my ego in check, my sense of humor, don’t lie at work, treat others with respect and ………………………..two balls.
    Do you think he will

  63. pirata Says:

I kept thinking the Liveclean devil looked familiar, could it be…

    http://finkweb.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/tammy.jpg

Of course that would not make much sense.

  64. NJ Says:

How can lance get through 13years of racing, with 3 or so test per week and be called a cheat. Dickheads.
Surely something would have come up.

  65. big jonny Says:

    Scott,
I’m done trading barbs with you. This is it. I’m not pussy. I’ve been writing the same stuff for years. This “you’re a pussy if you don’t tell me what you know” line is so old and tired. I did not personally inject Lance Armstrong with drugs. And that, apparently, is the only thing you would believe. I have no smoking gun. I’ve never said otherwise.

So, don’t believe me. I’m comfortable with you not knowing your ass from a hole in the ground. If you want to live out the rest of your years on this planet believing that Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy really do exist, fine. That’s your choice, dummy. You are cheering for a false prophet. I hope being blind to the way professional cycling works makes you feel better about life.

You’re response to everything I’ve seen, read, and heard is that I’m jealous of a man who is a better cyclist than I am. Seriously. That’s your argument. No matter what I or anyone else says, your answer is the same: It has to be jealousy.

If you think Lance Armstrong did not use PEDs during the heavy EPO years in professional, that’s fine with me. You want to ignore the fact he worked with Ferrari, fine. You want to ignore the confessions of his former teammates, fine. You want to ignore the fact he tuned up a doped field, fine. Maybe you should try reading about how EPO works and what kind of advantages a cyclist gains through its use. You do not beat the top cyclists in the world who are all ramping up their red blood cell count because you train harder than they do. They all train hard. They all make sacrifices. They all are incredibly physiologically gifted.

Take a look at who filed out the top spots in ’99, ’00, ’01, etc. Google them. See how many got popped for EPO. Do the math. You do it. You. Open your fucking eyes.

  66. dave Says:

So if they all cheated, including Lance, and Lance beat ‘em, I reckon he still beat ‘em fair and square.

    Or something.

    Whatever.

None of this makes a fucking bit of difference when it comes to my almost 60 year old Clydesdale ass going for a ride, so why would I give a fuck?

    Seriously.

    hopethishelps

  67. dave Says:

And aboot the pictures, eh-I didn’t know that Rosie O’Donnell was even into cycling. I guess it’s true, you learn something every day.

  68. Taste the Sunshine! Says:

    I agree with Jonny.

I have to agree that Lance did things that were amazing. He is doing great things with cancer research funding and such…but…he did it with no effort. if you watch his face on most of those climbs he was just blowing by people with seemingly no deep breaths. It was soooo damn easy for him. And you know all the other guys train just as hard as he does. Climbing those hills is not that easy..c’mon.
So to take that info and much other info that has been seen, heard, etc. to say that Lance didnt dope is like sitting here and watching the temps rise and rise. Droughts and floods happening in larger proportions than ever. Ice caps melting. Tropical storms making it all the way to southern Missouri…and saying….
    global warming isnt happening.

  69. dave Says:

‘Splain me this, Sunshine. If the whole pelican is juiced, howcome they ain’t got what Lancey-pants is allegedly taking? No, it’s impossible to have an edge due to exceptionally superior ability, because that just isn’t fair. Please.

And fuck the global warming propaganda. Ain’t been seen around here. Been freezing my ass off for months. I’d like me some global warming. Fuck winter.

  70. pirata Says:

dave – thats just it – they all gotta juice to be competitive.
Is Lance the best of the group? Probably. I also think he has worked with some of the best medical personnel in the world, giving him the “medical edge” as well. It is well documented he is extremely detail oriented, so you better believe that just as he analyzes every millimeter of adjustment on his bike he is doing the same on a medical level.
If everyone in the peleton raced clean the top 20 riders in the world would probably still look pretty much the same.

And global warming? sure its real, been happening for millions of years in cycles. Half the US used to be a giant tropical swamp/sea at one time, and was covered by ice at other times.
Are we causing it? Maybe. Probably to some degree. Would it happen anyway without us? Maybe. I just think we ought to live by the old rule of not shitting where you eat. Too bad it isn’t so simple.
But then it gets back to what drives doping in sports–money.

  71. jim Says:

I am happy to have this discourse. I think we have opened some real discussion regarding this issue. It always helps when there is real- not contrived – information, and real data to support an opinion. And CREDIBLE evidence. You have none. The ‘99 samples re-tested – please! French journalists and French whores – who is more credible? At least the whore admits she is making money when she is screwing you. These are all opinions. And obvious that we are all passionate about our position. You make some good points. Circumstantial- all, good points the same. BUT, nothing solid – just your opinion. I agree it is hard to believe that he raced and won amid a peer group that doped frequently. It is certainly possible that he did, in fact, dope. I wasn’t there either, nor did I have anyone tell me they saw him dope firsthand. My point is this: don’t condemn the dude until there is something real. The world is full of poseurs. You have nothing solid. All circumstantial. I will be the first one to loudly say you are correct- and come to your office and parade around in gay yellow tights with a big double syringe – if there is ever solid evidence. It is not that I don’t want to believe – I don’t care. And, until proven otherwise, my opinion, like yours, means nothing. My other point is: give him some credit for using his notariety – celebrity – whatever, to push for more cancer research. Frankly, I don’t give two shits if he doped constantly if he helps people suffering from cancer. I am also sure they could care less. By the way, great line about Santa Claus and Easter Bunny – it is true – I believed in both until I had real evidence to the contrary. I didn’t believe my pussy brothers, I found out for myself. Cheers

    Dave – #21

“Most tested” doesn’t mean anything when the testing is a joke. With the UCI, you have the fox guarding the henhouse. With Ferrari teaching him, he’s learned the loopholes. And after the EPO tests came about, they relied more heavily on blood doping.

Funny how many folks still leap to the robot’s defense without having done their homework.

What I “know” is what I’ve heard from 10’s of folks in pro cycling or who were involved in pro cycling – firsthand info. What I “know” is that Bruyneel’s program is based mostly on Saiz’s (remember Bruyneel rode for ONCE) and he uses the same method. What I “know” is that the testing is such a sham anyone with half a brain could get around it and never test positive. What I “know” is that you defenders should read Willy Voet’s “Breaking The Chains”, Joe Parkin’s “A Dog in A Hat”, and Paul Kimmage’s “Rough Ride” to understand just how ingrained doping is in cycling most especially in Europe.

If you honestly think Lance has done all of that winning clean against all those guys who got busted or offed themselves (Pantani, Ullrich, Zulle, etc etc etc) with the HELP of teammates who went on to not do as well but still get busted (Heras, Landis, Hamilton, etc etc) then you’re a complete and total fool in the truest sense of the word.

    Dave,
“What I “know” is what I’ve heard from 10’s of folks in pro cycling or who were involved in pro cycling – firsthand info”.
    Isn’t that an oxymoron??

Funny how gossip/rumor/innuendo get totally blogged out of proportion when bitter souls can tap out their hate on the little site that could. Lets start a blog called The Hate Cyclist – then we can all rail on constantly about a lot of shit we know little about. Guess misery loves company. Guess that is human nature. It’s a way for the weaker of a species to work their way up the food chain I suppose. Lets tear down all institution and spread hate fear and anxiety throughout the world. Life just isn’t good unless we can tear it down. That is of course because we “know”, we “know”, we “know”.

I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about whether LA doped or didn’t. I really don’t give a shit. I would not say with certainty that he did it all totally clean – I just don’t know. And, I am not going to convince readers of this blog that “I know” for sure. Yes, there are articles and books to the contrary, but all light ane shady in facts. In all these years, don’ you think someone – just one person – would have said – “I did drugs with Lance”. Look at A-Rod, Clemens, etc for example. People are so willing to roll over – why none on Lance – is he that powerful?? True, there has always been a culture of cheat/deciet in all sport – especially when money is involved. Name one sport that is perfect. I just find it funny that people have specifically singled out LA with the doping issue – and refuse to admit the good that has come with the attention he has brought to the sport we love. And to the cancer community. These are good things folks. Don’t allow yourself to wallow in the negative.

All of you are fucking idiots. I dont know if any of you are athletes, or claim to be. But if you were, you would know that there are in fact people who seem to have “superhuman” ambilities. Just because someone is amazingly better than others at something does not mean that they are cheating. I mean, the man is a freak, hes got a VO2 max that is off the charts, and his resting heart beat is like 30 bpm. His body is made for what he does, just like any other athlete that kills his/her competition. Why not support one of the best success and come back stories of all time?

LA and all the other cyclists are amazing athletes. If I was spending as much time in the saddle as these guys are — I would be plastered with fentanyl patches and a morphine drip. I think people can start criticizing the athletes once they have been in that position themselves. Doped or not — it is still an amazing feat to finish these races — let alone in the shortest amount of time.

and on the flipside, we have Frankie VDB…

    from cyclingnews:

Vandenbroucke, who will ride this season for the Belgian-Australian Continental team Fuga-Down Under, regretted never having “had the chance to be a pioneer, to try out new doping products first.” He said that if he had had the chance, he “would have done it without doubt. …. Everyone would have seized that chance. Nobody should be hypocritical about that!”

And probably tried to charge it to Boonen

I have seen 2 Strong healthy, phisically gifted prople taken by cancer.

I love cycling and watchig lance in July was some of the most memorable sporting moments I can recall. The Look, Jans crash. Lance going single track; giving Pantani the win etc….Now his comeback and Cancer quest…profound

That said the one thing I can’t grasp is the cancer recovery. I knoe first hand what the disease does to the body and what the treatment does. It kills you cell by cell, then when the cancer is gone you have to recover and the body can not recover with 3 square meals alone. Getting a body back to a world elite level in a soecific sport is another thing altogether. It takes a strong will and gifted body and a whole lot of other stuff added in the mix. The things they injected my stepmom with to get her back on her feet were a constant coctail of shit I can pronounce to this day and a lot of it is illegal in major sports.

I don’t care but I just don’t think losing 7 pounds of mass from kemo a big heart and off the chart VO2, gatorade and some Gu puts you over the alps all by itself. maybe it was I don’t know

Someone mentioned Bonds, Clemens and ARod earlier and the comparison I mke here is this. Those 3 had the numbers before the drugs. I am not sure Lance did have the numbers before 99. He had stage wins and single day wins. but nothing close to grand tour finish let alone podium

  111. dave Says:

Scott 90, let me clear the record here-I never said I was “defending” anyone. I simply stated that no one has produced proof of doping sufficient to get Lance banned. Them’s the facts.

Nor am I a racer. I’m just a Clydesdale pushing 60 with a job and a family, but when I get on a bike I remember how to be a kid again. Helps to preserve what frayed and tattered shreds of sanity I have left. Does wonders for my health, too, if I remember to ride enough. Nah, I have no skin in this game. I just like bikes.

And facts. Facts are cool too.
