Com’on Tuesday. Let’s get this trainwreck rolling.
Jim Hightower posts the obvious cirtique regarding the bailout. The only thing to gleam from that, is 70 billion in bonus packages.
Then there’s the msnbc investigation of the Country Wide VIP program. And really, what did anyone expect? Wall street cry’s bitch-come-run’n and who delivers? Frank, Palosi and Bush. Just to remind mahself, Bush is a republican correct? I guess I’ll have to expand my lexicon to include socialist-republican and it’ll have Bush’s face for an example. Nice work Mr Delta Bravo President. You’re the worst republican in history. Go get a plaque made and hang it on your wall. Then go fuck yourself because you’re that good.
Then there’s Meghan. A cute, plump girl, Liv’n it up la vida loca. A reflection of her Milfy mom with more to hang on to. I’d like ta get ta know her. She even maybe likes the Ramones. So Radical. Joey must be rolling in his grave.
And a very concise display of repuggy intelligence is found here. As I told Flo, I could only take about 45 seconds of it before I started feeling nauseous. I’m down with variety, but retardation is not attractive. Jst say’n.
Nielson said 33 million watched Obama’s Warm fuzzy feel good infomercial. Give me mah retoric pahlease. The scariest thing about Obama isn’t that he’s a lefty, it’s that there are millions of people, largely un-informed, who think he is a messiah, a JFK, or even an MLK. John Stossel even thinks maybe some, shouldn’t vote. Then, the cream on top, was the hug-fest between Obama and B. Clinton in Fl. Give me a break. Clinton is an ass regardless of his presidential legacy.
I told my repubby father at lunch yesterday that “it’s not going to be that bad” in attempt to reduce his blood pressure. He think’s we’re full on going into a socialistic time. It doesn’t matter to me so much, with the repubs, you spend the money on warfare. With the Dems, you spend the money on social issues. Why care about war vs social development? Who knows. I’m going on faith and at this point, Obama will serve some sort of change. Maybe he’ll break the bank even further, or perhaps, his promises will see the light of legislation. Either way, I’m ready to be done with this election year. There will be plenty of reality to discuss following its conclusion.

joey ramone was a republican

Joey Ramone was punk rock. Johnny was the repug.

Do you even know what a socialist is? It seems that know one that is a republican does. Obama is no more a socialist anymore then McCain is a teenager.

Obama will break the bank more than GWB? Ok, sure. That’s possible.
If uninformed (I think that’s what you meant) people aren’t allowed to vote, then we’d get to have, what, 5% turnout? Just because someone has a surface grasp of the issues doesn’t make them informed.

Wow. I’m surprised I’m so partisan and how right ya’ll are. Fact is that all of the preceding was informative relay, as in passing along popular info.
I think it’s interesting that anyone would suggest not voting, don’t you?
Either one has a tough road ahead. Obama could break the bank by default… and be in-line with the repug’s expectation. Maybe not. Either way, I don’t care.
Just in case anyone needs to know what socialism is, because no fucking shit Obama is not a socialist. Regardless, right wing propaganda is impressive.
What else ya’ll need clarified?

I’d like you to clarify why you have a banner ad for the homophobic prop 8. Do you hate gay people, or do you just sell space to people that do?
October 31st, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Hi Kris. Those ads are what peeps in the industry call “keyword” ads. It means, keywords associated in the article, are then linked to an ad. Indeed, the ad may be political in nature. If you do not agree with it, you should not feel obligated to click. It’s sort of just there if you’re interested.
Great question though, really.

“The scariest thing about Obama isn’t that he’s a lefty, it’s that there are millions of people – largely uniformed – who think he is a messiah, a JFK, or even an MLK.
I assume you are suggesting that being informed is more important than the emotional response people have to a candidate. You wage the classic american critique that it would be better to be subject to bad policy than the whims of those acting irrationally. This presumes two things, first that elections are about policies and second, that thinking that isn’t itself irrational.
One fundamental, some might say tragic, fact of American democracy is that the system is not driven by a rational use of information. If we think elections are the manifestation of a rational, policy driven, collective will, we should be entirely dissatisfied with the process by which we express that will. First, the question in an election isn’t a measure of self interest, if it were we would all write essays in the voting booth. Instead it asks us to predict which one of two options best approximates our interests. Second, the primary responsibility for distributing information to use in that prediction is in the candidates themselves. Third, there is no readily available or scientific method for relating the information provided to actual future actions. In the end, elections are a crap way of expressing a rational set of interests.
I doubt this is a big secret. It seems everyone knows that elections are primarily about the contest. Criticizing voters as “uninformed” requires the implicit recognition that the system is designed to allow anyone to participate in the process and judge the contest by whatever measure they choose.
Some people like to use information about past performance, others the statements of the candidates. Others yet choose to rely on comparison, emotional attraction or ‘gut’ feelings. There are even others who, apparently, make their predictions based on how other people make theirs. Noting that none of these options could have predicted a presidency that would fail to respect the most fundamental human rights, I would say that our choice on how we choose isn’t reflective of its reliability, but of some other utility. I submit that one such function of this choice is to gain consensus, and political capital, amongst those who think similarly, after all your assessment of the candidates cannot be validated by itself, it requires others to agree with you.
That said, one of the great ironies about elections is the ubiquity of those who attempt to pool a coalition by impugning the judgment of the majority. Its funny, most people think that they are smarter than most, so on that basis alone you could assemble a majority. Once you do however, you have the problem of explaining how everyone in the majority is smarter than everyone in the majority, so the cycle begins again.

I heart gay people.

Well alright then. I’m down with both CJ Eder, and Our Fearless Leader.
My point on the un-informed is more about the marketing genius (albeit well timed) of Obama (not that there’s anything wrong with it). He will have 4 years to prove his points and unless that happens, we’ll never know. I hope it does simply because McSame is largely status quo. That’s as far as my partisanship goes. It’s going to be good because of what it might mean. Scary because of the times it is occurring in. All speculation.

Kee-rist you guys can sound a little naive at times. Vote for Obama, by all means, but don’t vote for capital-C Change then tell me how thoughtful and informed you are. Dempublican or Repmocrat it’s ALL the status quo. Now open wide and enjoy your pablum.
Let’s examine this status quo: The U.S. is the richest, strongest and most productive nation, offering the most personal liberty, equal opportunity, and pretty much the best standard of living on earth. We are governed by about as close to democracy as anyone’s going to get, and we enjoy The Rule of Law from homeless drug dealers to senators and CEOs. To quote one of the greatest lines in movie history, “Nothing’s fucked, dude.”
Me, I paid a little over $2000 in federal income taxes this week. And I’m just a middle class schlub running around and trying to sell odd bits of electrical equipment. Taxes are going up and those of us in the middle class will be paying them, no matter which brand of “creeping socialism” you subscribe to.
Yours in (political) moderation,
Mikey

First, Obama’s marketing and genius are best though of separately. There is no doubt that the campaign has relied on a visual identity more than any other campaign in recent history. This candidate as consumer good style of marketing isn’t necessarily genius, however. The most likely reason why we haven’t seen more Obama style marketing in the past is because it doesn’t work all that well at actually attracting voters. In fact, a good case may be made that the economic meltdown (why can’t we just call it a market crash?) has been the decisive factor in this campaign and would have been so regardless of Obama’s marketing. I would concede that it does appear to make the voters much more brand loyal. What the consequences of this loyalty beyond fund raising might be is hard to say.
McSame. You are right to say that McCains relationship with Bush is a decisive factor in this election. I would say it is the only rational factor in any election. If elections are about public interest at all, they only offer post hoc solutions to poor governance. Perhaps the best thing about this year is that Bush was so bad that improvement seems inevitable.
Speculation. Building on the last point, one of my favorite things about elections is that even if we are voting on the basis of removing a bad leader, we still don’t know shit about the person replacing them. I like to think of electoral politics as a big bowl of saltwater taffy. You choose the orange one expecting it to taste, I dunno, like an orange, chew on it for four years, realize its fucking cantaloupe, and move on slightly nauseated to the green one.
October 31st, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Or just say fuck all and vote for Bobby Barr.
Whoever wins is doomed to inheriting a giant steaming pile and I doubt they will be able to get out of it in 4 years.
mmmmmm…Yuengling….
