MBAA – The New Deal…

Just think, only 10 years ago the Mountain Bike Association of Arizona held multiday events sponsored by companies like Budweiser and Canondale. Ah yes, those were the days. Thankfully, the trendy popularity of mtb receded over the decade to follow and riding & racing a mountain bike is closer to the soul again. While the MBAA has chugged through all those years in an effort to maintain what it was that they once had, they’ve done it with honest hard work and some good ol head-against-the-wall bludgenoning. They’re endearing if only for that. So, congrats to the reorganization. I expect good things from the new crew.

Goddamn man. We got ourselves a election here in AZ….

MBAA Board Election Results are in! Announcing the 2009 MBAA Board….

  • President/Chair: Janet Kerby
  • Sponsorship & Communications Chair: Hayley Creager
  • Public Relations & Marketing Chair: Sheri Wallace
  • Competition Chair: Art McFarland
  • Membership Chair: Karen Wellner Volunteer
  • Team Coordination Chair: Chris Capages (Scooby)
  • Land and Trail Chair: Michael Yares

While each member of the board has taken on a “role” or area to chair, we consider ourselves to be a team and will be working together to increase mountain bike opportunities throughout Arizona. This year we would like to see an increase in volunteerism amongst the community of mountain bikers to facilate greater trail riding and race venue opportunities, and an overall increase in the participation of the sport of Mountain Biking. As such, the MBAA will be partnering with NOVA Youth Cycling Foundation to promote Mountain Bike racing to Arizona High School and Middle Schools. Some of you may be asking “where’d Gen Garan go?”. Gen will still be around to offer up advise to the board, but is stepping down to spend more time doing “retirement”. Thanks to Gen, we’ve had several successful race seasons as a self run organization! Be a part of the MBAA, help us grow mountain biking in Arizona! All MBAA members are welcome to participate in any of our board meetings. Let me know if you’re interested and we’ll let you know when and where.
Happy Trails Janet Kerby

Glad to see the MBAA is still around, enjoyed doing their races in the mid 90’s.
Definitely did a lot better than the AMBA.
Was fun having two different race series going on, while it lasted.
