WILL YOUR FAVORITE BEER COST MORE?
Here’s what some brewers are doing:

– Anheuser-Busch Cos.: The maker of Budweiser, Bud Light and Michelob expects to raise prices.

– Yuengling: Hasn’t decided on a in crease yet, but a higher price is likely after Jan. 1.

– Appalachian Brewing Co.: ABC is still deciding on raising prices.

-Stoudt’s: The Adamstown brewer might raise prices by $2 or $3 per case.

-Troegs: Troegs will decide after the holidays; consumers might see an increase of $1.50 to $3 per case.

  1. My understanding was that beer prices were going to go up as a result of a hop shortage. I don’t know why this should have any effect on the cost of Bud Light.

  2. This is a direct result of trying to convert food to motor fuel, when your car and you are competing for the same calories, the price will inevitably go up. Good for the farmer (a little), but bad for those of us who have decided not to drive because of the indirect costs (environment, wars for oil, etc…)

  3. Art (above) is right. Here in Washington State, we grow some of the best hops used in great N.W. ales. However, there are fewer growers since many switched from a low-margin crop to growing corn for ethanol. And also like Art says, I don’t know why this would be such an issue with beers like Bud…but it truly is with N.W. craft ales like Fish, Elysian, Bridgeport, etc.

  4. Shit man, I’m moving back there! Actually to Maryland, but well within driving distance of PA to get Yuengling, got to ABC, got to Stoudt’s or buy Troegs

Guess I’ll go straight to Moonshine…oh wait, you need corn for that too

  5. Of all of the negative news out there, this one hits home hardest.
Multiple dollar per case price hikes are going to hurt. May have to factor that into the ’08 budget. Fuck me.

Scag – Yuengling is spreading. Its as far south as South Carolina now, and fairly easily found throughout the mid-atlantic from what I have seen. still a teasingly few hours drive away from me though.
